A slightly belated GCSE results post! 🎓

I’ve finally had a chance to reflect on this year’s results, and I’m so proud of my students and everything they’ve achieved.

A lot of the students who came to me this year were working around Grades 2–3, with some having already attempted their English GCSE more than once, and others joining me quite late in the year.

There have been some brilliant results, including students moving from Grade 3 to Grade 5, students finally getting that all-important pass after previous attempts, and several students making two grades of progress. It was also fantastic to see that every student I taught for Literature achieved a Grade 4 or above, with several achieving Grade 5s! 🌟

There were also a couple of students who missed out on a Grade 4 in Language by just one mark. Being so incredibly close was tough, but they’ve made fantastic progress and we’re hopeful that a review of marking may still get them that all-important Grade 4. 🤞

Beyond the final results, it’s been wonderful to see the progress my students have made throughout the year. I’ve watched them grow in confidence, persevere when they’ve found English difficult and, most importantly, make real progress from their individual starting points.

I’m incredibly proud of all of you. ❤️

And with my first full year of Hicks Home Learning complete, I’m now looking forward to seeing what year two brings! 📚

As my GCSE students move on after their final exams, I have been thinking about one of Shakespeare's most famous lines:

"Parting is such sweet sorrow."

There is something very true in that. It is always a little sad to say goodbye to students I have worked with week after week, but it is also exciting to see them move on to the next stage of their lives.

I am incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and grateful to have been part of their journey.

As one chapter closes, another begins, and this week I have also had the pleasure of welcoming new students to Hicks Home Learning.

Here's to new beginnings, new goals, and new successes. 💙

You’ve all worked incredibly hard over the last few months, and I know how much effort, revision, and practice has gone into preparing for this exam.

Take a breath, trust yourself, and just focus on one question at a time.

Good luck to everyone sitting GCSE English Literature Paper 2 today 💙

Remember to keep an eye on timing, stay focused on the question, and use short, precise quotations where you can. If you can’t remember exact quotes, don’t panic. Clear references to events, ideas, characters, or poems from the anthology are absolutely still useful.

Most importantly, trust yourself and the revision you have already done. You are more prepared than you think.

You’ve got this! ✨

It has been a very busy few months at Hicks Home Learning, supporting students through Year 10 mock exams and intensive GCSE preparation.

I am also delighted to share that one of my Functional Skills students has recently passed their exam, which was a fantastic milestone! 🥳

I will be sharing more updates and resources over the coming weeks. 🌟
