🍲💚 Cooking up some Gruffalo magic! 🌿

The children at Hedgehogs Rochester have been loving the book Gruffalo Granny so much that they decided to make her famous stew! 🥕🥔

Inspired by the story, the children identified their ingredients, explored different vegetable shapes and textures, and got busy chopping, dicing and mixing☺️.

The excitement grew even more when Gruffalo Granny herself came to visit and try their recipe! 🥹💚

The children have continued to revisit their stew-making adventures in the mud kitchen and role-play area, building on their ideas and developing their language, creativity and imagination through play!❤️🦔

🏕️🌙 Camping Adventures! 🌙🏕️

Some of the children at Hedgehogs Rochester enjoy camping with their families, so the staff used this familiar experience as an invitation to learning and play! 🥰

The children enjoyed sharing their own camping experiences, listening to one another and practising conversational turn-taking as they talked about what they had done with their families.

They then used their imaginations to create stories around the campfire 🔥, while also talking about fire safety and how they can keep themselves safe.

There was some lovely roleplay around star gazing, as the children looked up at the night sky and imagined what they could see. ⭐🌙 They also explored the idea of nocturnal animals, listening carefully and talking about what animals they might hear or spot during the night. 🦉🦔

🥕🍰 Future stars of Bake Off in the making! 🍰🥕

The little chefs at Hedgehogs Rochester have been busy baking a delicious carrot cake! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

This was a wonderful sensory experience, providing a feast for the senses — from feeling and exploring the different ingredients to enjoying the delicious smells as our cake baked. 👃✨

The children helped to prepare and measure all the ingredients before combining everything together to create their very own sumptuous carrot cake. 🥕🥣

And of course, the best part was getting to taste their creation! 😋💕

🍂🎨 Exploring Autumn’s Natural Bounty! 🎨🍂

The children at Hedgehogs Rochester have been getting creative with nature this week! 🌿🍁

We’ve been experimenting with leaf painting and having lots of fun with conker colour mixing. 🤎🖌️

These activities are a wonderful way for the children to explore colour, texture and creativity while developing their fine motor skills and curiosity about the natural world around them. 🍂✨

🌧️💦 When the rain came down… 💦🌧️

The children were so excited to see the rain arrive, which sparked lots of wonderful conversations and questions about where rain comes from and how it is formed. ☁️🌧️

Of course, the rain also brought plenty of opportunities for fun! The children enjoyed splashing in the puddles and collecting rainwater using a variety of different containers. 💧

As they explored, they naturally began using mathematical language to compare the amounts of water, discussing which containers held more, less, full and empty. 🪣🔢

🎨 Exploring Colour & Patterns! 💧

This week, the children have been exploring what happens when colour is added to tissue paper and water. They watched closely as the colours travelled, mixed and created beautiful patterns, observing how the water changed as the colours moved and displaced.

The children were encouraged to make predictions about what they thought might happen next, sharing their ideas and then watching to see if their predictions were correct. 🔍✨

School Leavers Graduation 2026 🎓

We had a wonderful time celebrating our School Leavers Graduation at Hedgehogs! It was a special occasion to mark the children's journey with us and celebrate all they have achieved.

The children delighted everyone with their singing before proudly receiving their graduation certificates, a special photo frame, and their very own mini Hedgehogs keepsake.

After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea together, followed by lots of fun playing on the field.

We are so proud of each and every one of our school leavers and wish them all the very best as they begin their exciting new adventures at school. Good luck, we know you'll all do amazing things! 🌟
