Just for Eric! Here's Jaco Pastorius. He's improvising on a scale accompanied by just a drummer. Do this! He pauses and he syncopates but he never loses the beat. Note his right hand technique - the thumb anchors his hand so he can use his "walking fingers" very quickly and precisely. Note how he has the confidence to let his performance "breathe" - he doesn't fill every bar with notes. Listen out for his use of syncopation. Note how he uses his bass as an extension of his mood and his personality. He "feels" the performance. Look at the joy on his face and how it finds its way to his fingers. Be more Jaco!
