Make a Real Difference in Children’s Lives
🌿 Outdoor Activity Tutor
Releasing Potential – Changing lives through outdoor learning
Are you passionate about the outdoors and motivated to make a real difference in young people’s lives? At Releasing Potential, we use outdoor education as a powerful tool to support students aged 11–18 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We work across Hampshire and West Sussex, creating inclusive learning environments where young people can grow, achieve, and reconnect with education.
Every young person we work with has an Education, Health, and Care Plan and many have faced significant barriers to learning. Through small-group and 1:1 outdoor sessions, we help them rebuild confidence, develop new skills, and discover their strengths. The work isn’t always easy - but the breakthroughs, big or small, are truly rewarding.
🌳 Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need a traditional teaching background - just a love of the outdoors and a desire to help young people thrive.
Do you:
• Have a passion for outdoor adventure, skills, and nature-based learning?
• Want a role where every day brings variety, challenge, and impact?
• Enjoy helping young people grow through activities like paddle sports, bushcraft, climbing, and land-based exploration?
If so, you could be the perfect fit.
🧭 Your Key Responsibilities
• Lead safe, engaging outdoor sessions (group or 1:1) throughout the day.
• Plan and deliver activity programmes that meet each learner’s needs, recording progress toward National Governing Body qualifications.
• Maintain relevant qualifications and ensure all equipment is safe and ready to use.
• Carry out risk assessments, including checking weather conditions and adapting plans as needed.
• Share regular updates with schools, parents, carers, and referring agencies.
• Keep accurate, accessible student records for use across the team.

🎒 You Will Need
• A full UK driving licence (essential).
• An NGB Instructor Qualification (desirable).
• A valid First Aid certificate.
• Understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, or communication differences.
• Patience, empathy, creativity and resilience.
• Experience working with young people in outdoor settings.
• SEN experience is beneficial but not essential - we value passion and potential.
🌈 What We Offer
• Full-time salary starting at £26,481 (not pro-rata - enjoy year-round stability).
• 34 days holiday plus bank holidays.
• A generous pension scheme.
• 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
• Ongoing training and nationally recognised qualifications.
• A supportive team and a role where your work has real purpose.
🛡 Our Safeguarding Promise
We are committed to safeguarding young people.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You must declare all convictions, cautions, warnings, or bind-overs, including those considered “spent.”
All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and will undergo enhanced safer recruitment checks, including:
• Enhanced DBS & barred list check
• Online and social media screening

✨ We’re in the news! ✨

We’re so proud to share that Releasing Potential has been featured in the local paper today, celebrating our improvement in our recent Ofsted inspection.

This achievement reflects the incredible dedication of our staff team, the guidance of our Trustees and Governors, and the resilience of the young people we are privileged to work with every day.
Everyone has played a part in this journey, from creating safe, nurturing learning environments to helping our students grow in confidence, independence, and hope.

Thank you to our whole RP family for the belief, effort, and heart you bring into this work.
It’s wonderful to see the wider community recognising how far we’ve come

Staff at a special education school are ‘pleased’ at securing a positive Ofsted outcome after emerging from a ‘difficult position’.

Make a Real Difference in Children’s Lives

Outdoor Activity Tutor Vacancy

Releasing Potential is dedicated to supporting students aged 11-18 with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Serving the local authorities of Hampshire and West Sussex, we offer a nurturing educational environment where young people can flourish beyond the constraints of traditional education.
Our success lies in recognising each student as an individual and welcoming them into the Releasing Potential community with unconditional positive regard. All our students have an Education, Health, and Care Plan, due to social, emotional, and mental health challenges that have hindered their access to education, resulting in challenging behaviour.
We work in small groups or 1:1. The work can be tough, challenging and even frustrating at times, but the rewards of inspiring progress and achievements —no matter how small, like students simply showing up—can be truly meaningful.
Personal Qualities

We are looking for people seeking a new challenge.
Do you have a passion for the outdoors that you’d love to share?
Are you looking for a fulfilling role where you can inspire and develop young people—while growing personally and professionally?
Join us in delivering high-quality, safe, and rewarding outdoor learning experiences through a variety of water and land-based activities.

Main Duties
• Ensure the safe operation of group or one-on-one sessions for the entire duration that young people are in your care.
• Plan and deliver a programme of activities tailored to the needs and experience of each group or individual, recording their progress toward National Governing Body qualifications after each session.
• Maintain the necessary qualifications and appropriate equipment for all activities you lead.
• Conduct risk assessments for all activities, continuously evaluating potential risks, including obtaining up-to-date and relevant weather forecasts.
• Provide feedback to RP School, referring agencies, parents, or carers through weekly updates or verbal reports.
• Keep student records up to date and accessible for other staff who may need them for future sessions.

What You’ll Need
• A valid UK driving licence (essential).
• An NGB Instructor qualification?
• Do you have a valid First Aid Certificate?
• An understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, and communication differences.

Behind every meeting and challenge we face as an organisation, our Trustees are steady, thoughtful, and committed to seeing Releasing Potential grow and thrive.

To each of our Trustees: thank you for all that you do, for the hours you give, and for the belief you have in our charity and our vision. You help make possible the change we see every day.

📱🌍 World Mental Health Day 2025

This year’s theme highlights the impact of news overwhelm and doomscrolling: the constant flood of worrying stories that can leave us feeling powerless or anxious.

At Releasing Potential, we remind our students (and ourselves) that stepping away from the screen and reconnecting with the world around us; the forest, the sea, each other, can bring calm, balance, and perspective.

Take a moment today to pause, breathe, and look up. The news will still be there, but peace can’t reach us if we never stop scrolling.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the news, try grounding yourself outdoors, even ten minutes in the fresh air can reset your mind.
