Life gets loud.
News, noise, expectations… and yeah, occasionally a light flirtation with a bottomless pit of despair.
So I ride.
The trail doesn’t fix everything — it just cuts through it.
Roots, climbs, breath, dirt.
Something real.
For a while, it’s just me, the bike, and not overthinking my entire existence.
Chaos still exists.
But so does flow.
And today, I picked flow.

I’ve been riding Mountain Bikes for 8 years and guiding for 5... what I wish I’d known sooner?
1. Ride your bike more - this is by far the best way to gain skills. Coaching is great, but you need experience first. - Social rides are great for this.
2. Look after your chain, cassette, chainring IE drivetrain. Keeping this clean and lubed will save so many problems in the future (Join a maintenance day for all of the tips)
3. Leading from the back is as important as leading from the front. You see more, learn more, support more.
Riding with the right crew gets you to the top of the hill before you know it.

Saturday’s Scout Series in Exmoor has stuck in my head…
Not the weather, not the descents, not the mechanicals.. well yes those too
Just how the day felt and came together.
No rushing, no egos, just everyone finding their ride.
Each climb and descent proving we could handle what ever comes up.
You can see the smiles, chatting, and comfort levels build over the day…
