Let's be honest: screens help us get dinner made, emails answered, and a moment of calm. Every parent relies on them sometimes.

What's worth knowing: research links heavy screen use in kids to poorer sleep, shorter attention spans, and less time for active play and face-to-face connection.

The good news is that small tweaks make a real difference:

✅ Keep phones out of bedrooms overnight
✅ Make meals a screen-free zone
✅ Swap in one active activity a day, like a walk or bike ride
✅ Watch together when you can, since shared screen time counts differently

Does your child get stressed?

Does telling them to breathe or calm down actually work? - NOPE!

This simple technique teaches them HOW to breathe when they start to feel stressed or overwhelmed with something (or someone)!

Teach them this and do it together when they are calm. Then talk about times when they have felt stressed before and predict when they might feel stressed again. Plan for the moment, recognise the signs and put this quite simple technique into action.

Happy September!

A new school year is just around the corner, and September can bring a real mix of excitement, nerves and anticipation for children — and parents too!

Whether your child is starting a new year group, moving to a new school or simply getting back into the school routine, remember that they don’t need to feel ready all at once.

Don’t forget to talk positively about school. Ask them what they’re looking forward to, who they’ll see and what they’re excited about.

A little preparation + lots of encouragement = a great start to the new school year!

The school year is just around the corner (I can hear the relief) and there’s always things to organise!

One thing that is often overlooked is routine!

Top tip: Start rebuilding the school routine now.

Gradually bring bedtime, wake-up time and morning routines closer to their school-day schedule. It can make that first week feel much less of a shock!
