Legionella can develop wherever water systems are not properly managed, creating serious health risks for building users, employees and visitors.

We still have places available on our Highfield Level 2 Award in Legionella Awareness (Hot and Cold Water Systems) (RQF), taking place at Padworth Village Hall on Friday 9 October 2026.

This one-day accredited course helps learners understand:

– How Legionella bacteria can develop and spread
– The health risks associated with Legionnaires’ disease
– Common risks within hot and cold water systems
– The importance of temperature monitoring and suitable control measures
– The responsibilities involved in managing Legionella risks
– The records and procedures needed to support effective water management

The course is suitable for facilities staff, maintenance teams, caretakers, landlords and anyone with responsibilities relating to the management of workplace water systems.

A quiet moment captured in the countryside, with this calf resting alongside the herd.

Spending time in the field gives us the chance to observe more than the task at hand. From livestock to the surrounding plants and trees, there is always something worth stopping to notice.

Could your workplace respond effectively if a fire broke out?

We still have places available on our Highfield Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety (RQF), taking place at Padworth Village Hall on Thursday 8 October 2026.

This one-day accredited course explores:

– Fire hazards, common causes and fire prevention
– Workplace fire-safety duties and control measures
– Means of escape, alarms and evacuation procedures
– Responding to a fire and communicating with others

The course is suitable for anyone with additional fire-safety responsibilities, including those supporting workplace fire procedures and evacuation arrangements.

Our Awareness of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace for Managers e-learning course provides clear, practical guidance to help managers understand:
– What constitutes sexual harassment
– The different forms it can take
– Its impact on individuals and the wider workplace
– How concerns should be reported and addressed
– Their responsibilities in preventing inappropriate behaviour

Wednesday Field Notes

A welcome splash of colour among the fallen leaves.

These ivy-leaved cyclamen were growing beneath the trees, with both pink and white flowers appearing together. Despite their delicate appearance, they are remarkably hardy and bring colour to shaded areas as summer gives way to autumn.

The flowers often appear before the foliage, followed by beautifully patterned, ivy-shaped leaves that remain through the winter.

One of those small details that could easily be missed if you are not looking closely.
