🔧 Today we wrapped up our last Mechanical Engineering Summer Workshop.

We are back in September with our Bricks Challenge after-school clubs at Crosfields, Birch Copse and Westwood Farms.

We’re also starting Galileo Technic (Year 2) after school at Whiteknights and on Saturday mornings at the Thames Hospice Superstore.

🎡🌷 Today’s workshop was full of wonderfully weird creations! 🤖

Our Young Engineers built Catch Me, which reminded me of a rather impressive stag beetle 🪲, followed by beautiful tulips and lilies 🌷.

And then came the Ferris wheel… although once it started moving, it looked rather more like a very fancy leggy spider out for a walk! 🕷️😂

Lots of building, experimenting and, as always, plenty of fun! 🔧✨

🚨🤖 Thursday’s Young Engineers had lots of fun bringing their models to life with code!

🚓 Patrol vehicles with flashing lights — and some engineers even added sounds!
🐭 Mouse traps that used sound sensors to detect the latch, triggering a red warning light and alert sound.
🐶 Automated pet feeders that released food when the pet bumped the lever.

The children loved experimenting with different lights, sounds and sensor functions💡🔊

🎳⚙️ Day 2 of our Mechanics & Engineering Workshops was another fantastic success!

It was brilliant to see our new Young Engineers from last week remembering all about speed-increasing and speed-reducing transmissions. Even better, they confidently experimented and applied what they’d learnt with little or no help! 👏

🏆 A huge well done to M for winning our friendly bowling competition! 🎉

🎡 We finished the day by building our Amusement Park Ride – one of the coolest and most challenging models we’ve built yet. The concentration, teamwork and determination on display were amazing!

📅 We still have a few spaces available on Wednesday 12th and Wednesday 19th if your child would like to join us for a day of hands-on engineering fun.

☀️🔧 The heatwave wasn’t enough to stop our Young Engineers!

Despite the soaring temperatures and some schools closing early, several of our engineers were determined not to miss club this week. 😄

We built a pump jack, a wind-powered car, and a fantastic Rube Goldberg machine — packed with moving parts, creativity and problem-solving.

Forget "I'm bored!" before the summer holidays have even started. 😅

Give them robots to build, machines to engineer, code to crack and challenges to conquer instead.

They'll have so much fun they won't even realise they're learning. 😉

🎶 From original model to masterpiece!

This week we explored how an accordion shape works and used a ratchet mechanism so our model would move forward🔧

Then came the best part… adding personal touches to make the build unique! 😄
