Expanding to groups!
It’s been really exciting to see my little tutoring business doing well over the past few months and it’s been so rewarding to support so many amazing students and families!
Ready for next year I will mainly only be tutoring in groups! This will be focused purely on AQA English Language and grouped due to ability. I’m keeping options open for year 10 vs year 11 groups dependant on interest!

📰 Exciting news! 📰
I am hosting some small group sessions over the summer to support year 6s with the, sometimes overwhelming, transition to year 7 in September!
We will focus on reading, writing but also ENJOYMENT of English, which can, sadly, be lost as children move through secondary school.
I’m really excited to see how this develops! Have some great session ideas lined up… 🔎

How do I teach GCSE Shakespeare to students?
💡 The Shakespeare section of Literature Paper 1 can be a source of anxiety for students, understandably due to the language alone.
👉🏻 However, continued practice of retrieval, critical interpretation and analytical writing ensures that students slowly develop the writing flair and fluency that they need for this question, whilst also having a fundamental understanding of the plot.

In no way is it an easy fix to leave teaching and this may not be forever for me.
The headnoise and guilt when I decided to take weekends off was exhausting, and usually left me unable to be fully present, and then feeling irritable or even MORE guilt as a result of that.
Although it’s nerve wracking taking the leap into tutoring, and something less financially consistent at the moment, the sense of relief and freedom is so exciting ❤️

In the past couple of weeks since committing to tutoring full time I have taken on 5 new students!
With those who have started GCSEs one thing is evidently clear - you get out what you put in. Those students who are doing their best to commit time, not just to our sessions, but outside of sessions with revision and re-evaluating their approach to learning are the ones who are seeing progress.
It can be a really overwhelming time - but your future self will most definitely thank you for all of your hard work.
It’s amazing to work with such lovely young people ☺️.

🧠 Literature Paper 2 can feel overwhelming! 🧠
But it doesn’t have to be… reduce your workload to 8 poems, instead of 15!
Good luck to year 11s! 4 days to go 🗓️

The Balloon Debate + Speech Writing 🎈
👉🏻 One of my favourite lessons for focusing on speech writing, presentation skills and even group work. Always an amazing way to engage students without them even feeling like it’s an English lesson 🤫
🖊️ Planned for a Year 7 1:1 session today - we’ll be starting with the debate of “who should be kept on the hot air balloon and who shouldn’t”, some vocab and synonyms practise and finally writing the opening to a speech imagining that you are one of the characters who is trying to defend their place, once they’ve been picked and end up on the desert island. Obviously couldn’t miss the opportunity to do a bit of tea-stained “art work” 🏝️
