We see relationships as the core focus of all education, with kindness, compassion and empathy being at the heart of these relationships. We use the PACE approach (Dan Hughes) together with The Thrive approach and seek to work in partnership with our students to understand potential barriers, support engagement and develop self-belief. The result of these approaches ensures both personal and collaborative progress and achievement.

Calcot Services for Children are delighted to confirm the official registration of The Mile House Therapeutic School, following a glowing Ofsted report.
The team has worked diligently to put everything in place for a seamless school opening in September. We are so proud of this incredible addition to CSfC services.
The Mile House is a therapeutic school for children aged 11 - 16 years old. The school has large, spacious classrooms, flexible art and creative spaces, and extensive grounds. Mrs Tibbles, the headteacher, has expressed that the pupils at The Mile House will take lead in their education, putting an emphasis on ‘project based learning’.

''Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a clear strand running through the
school’s curriculum. Leaders see this aspect as being central to pupils being able to reengage with formal learning and achieve future personal and academic success.'' - Ofsted

'' Pupils’ admission to the school looks set to be managed carefully. Leaders are alert to the range of evidence they will need to collect in order to identify whether the school is likely to be able to meet pupils’ particular needs. They have thoughtful plans for how relevant information will be brought together to influence appropriate learning for pupils, taking account of what is identified in their education, health and care plan. Systems are in place to keep track of how successfully pupils are learning what is intended for them so that gaps in knowledge can quickly be identified and addressed. '' - Ofsted

We work closely with the local authority and multi-agency groups, due to the vulnerable nature of our students who all have Education, Health and Care plans in place. This partnership ensures that we know of all the services available to support students, how to access these, and when and where to share this knowledge amongst our community.

''Leaders aspire for pupils to gain relevant qualifications that will give them the currency they need to access further education, employment or training when they leave the school. The school’s curricular planning shows how pupils will work towards these long-term academic goals, alongside their own personal development. Over time, leaders anticipate bringing in subject-specialist teachers who will help develop curriculum planning further, so that plans map out more clearly how knowledge builds
over time on what has been learned before.'' - Ofsted 💜📖

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”

'Many of our students have experienced significant disruption to their education due to the impact of particular challenges in their lives and/or their diagnosis of need. We therefore understand that for some, school can be a difficult place to be. With this in mind, our approach is specifically designed to allow students to discover what purposeful learning means for them. We enable our students to explore learning through a creative, broad and balanced, yet individualised approach, centred around wellbeing and personal development.' - S.Tibbles, Headteacher
