On Friday, our school community came together for a special memorial to honor the life of our beloved teacher, leader, friend and role model - Mrs Ball, whom we sadly lost recently.

Joined by Mrs. Ball’s closest family, the children and staff gathered to pay their respects through a beautiful selection of songs, readings and heartfelt class tributes.

With thanks to a generous grant from the Somerset Gardens Trust, we have created a dedicated sensory area and quiet zone on our school playing field. This special space was designed to provide a moment of calm and comfort for our children.

We have filled the new planters with a beautiful mix of:

🌿 Herbs & Lavender for soothing scents
🌺 Fuchsias & Salvias for vibrant colors & textures
🌳 We have also planted an apple tree in the area. Over the years, it will grow to provide a beautifully shaded seating area and fresh apples for generations of Leigh on Mendip school children to enjoy.

It has been wonderful to see the children already embracing this peaceful space. Thank you to everyone who helped us create such a meaningful tribute.

Happy Half Term!

The children in preschool love going out exploring the school grounds. This week, they took their homemade magnifying glasses out to see what they could find.

Look at these beautiful natural frames! The children loved hunting for tiny treasures, spotting daisies, green leaves, and little blue petals to stick onto their lenses. It was a wonderful way to look at the details of nature up close.

Fresh air + messy paint = the perfect afternoon in Robins Preschool.

Our Preschool children love to get outside and make use of their outdoor areas. They’ve been busy exploring our giant texture board, using vibrant paints to discover what happens when you paint on foil, bubble wrap and cardboard.

Sensory learning is always better in the great outdoors!

Children in Starling Class have been channeling their inner Stone Age creators this week by mixing up their very own prehistoric paint.
Using a mixture of flour, water, grains and vibrant spices, they recreated the exact kind of natural pigments used thousands of years ago to produce incredible cave art masterpieces.

It has been a busy time of exploring, creating and growing in Preschool! 🌟

Our little learners have been developing some brilliant new skills. They have been:
✂️ Practising their scissor skills with lots of careful snipping and cutting.
🧪 Mixing up magical potions.
🌱 Planting seeds and learning all about what plants need to grow.

With another School Council meeting just around the corner, we have been looking through the suggestions boxes!

These brilliant ideas are taken straight from the Starling Class box and we absolutely love them. Some of our favourites include:

✨ Bring a book to school day
✨ Read books in the lodge
✨ A storyteller to come into school
✨ More English & Maths (we love the enthusiasm!)
✨ Make birdhouses

Where possible, we always try to ensure that our School Council's voice is heard, and we love bringing their ideas to life. Watch this space! 🌟

On Thursday, children in Water house and Earth house celebrated a joint win in the termly house point competition.

To celebrate the achievement, all the children from both houses headed to the village park for a well deserved hour of play, sport and celebration.
