🎉Happy Birthday to The Mendip School who has celebrated 10 years!

The year of celebration started with a Colour Run and ended with the Fair on the Field 🌈🎪

Some of the young people who have moved on from the special school over the past 10 years also returned to share what their lives are like now: from completing degrees, setting up their own businesses to working for the MOD and in the care sector.

None of their journeys have been easy, but the lessons they learned, and the memories they created at Mendip have enabled them to have positive futures ☺️

🏆A student from Fosse Way School has made school history by becoming the first pupil to achieve all three levels of the prestigious The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE).

🥇18-year-old Matthew Walker has received his Gold Award, marking the culmination of an extraordinary journey, which began when he undertook the Bronze award in 2023, followed by Silver in 2024.

👉To achieve the Gold award, Matthew took part in an sailing expedition on Lake Windermere, volunteered at Bath and West Showground , volunteered at his local shop and took part in physical challenges.

Pictured next to Matthew is Phil Burton, Senior Teacher and Duke of Edinburgh Manager at Fosse Way School who said:

“Matthew is a remarkable student who has achieved the highest honour in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) programme, demonstrating determination, resilience and personal growth."

Rhyanna Wingrove, Operations Manager for England at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity, said:

“Between April 2025 and March 2026, 730 young people with additional needs achieved their Gold DofE Award in the UK. It’s so fantastic to hear that Matthew is one of those dedicated young people who have achieved their Gold, and for him to be the first young person to do so at Fosse Way School, calls for a double celebration. A massive well done to him!”

🎨🌿 Nature Inspires Budding Artists from Marksbury Primary School

Reception pupils from Marksbury Church of England Primary School enjoyed a creative visit to The Pig Hotel last month, using plants in the gardens as inspiration for their sketches and paintings.

The school regularly visits the restaurant for enrichment activities, from learning how food is grown and cooked to developing map-reading skills.

📚✨ Earlier this month, the Hospital Education Reintegration Service (HERS) hosted their annual Reading Spa event!

Students enjoyed cosy reading nooks (including a hammock!), tasty treats, reading-themed crafts, and took home a goodie bag and a book to keep. 📕🧁☕

For the first time, parents and carers were also invited to join the Reading Spa sessions 💛

HERS supports children and young people who are medically unfit to attend their registered school.
