π΄ Safer sleep at Watch me grow childcare π΄
We understand that sleep plays a vital role in children's growth, learning and overall wellbeing. From Tuesday 1st September the updated EYFS requirements strive to bring strengthened safer-sleep requirements into the statutory framework. The updated framework aims to provide safer sleeping for all children in every childcare setting.
Here at Watch me grow childcare the new safer-sleep guidance are already in place, however I thought this would be a good opportunity to show parents and carers how we implement safer-sleep each day.
Here are the sleeping arrangements at Watch me grow childcare. β¬οΈ
π΄ The updated EYFS specifically requires babies aged under 1 year to sleep in a cot, which include suitable travel cots that are used here. Cots with a firm, flat, mattress and appropriate lightweight bedding. This can also be a child's own sleep bag from home.
π΄ Over 1 to 2 years or when children are developmentally ready, children can still access travel cots or can use individual sleep mats on a firm, flat surface.
π΄ Every child will have their own bedding bag with assigned their own named storgae bag so bedding is kept separate and hygienic.
π΄ Sleep mats are cleaned after every use and all bedding will be washed each weekend or beforehand if needed.
π΄ We use lightweight cellular blankets, following safer-sleep requirements helping to ensuring children cannot become covered by any loose bedding.
π΄ The recommended room temperature for a sleeping baby in the UK is 16Β°C to 20Β°C. We will aim to keep the room temperature between the recommended temperature. In extreme heat that we have experienced recently, we will help reduce room temperatures by, keeping curtains closed, using fans, open windows before it becomes hot outdoors and reduce clothing and bedding when necessary.
π΄ Some children may not sleep throughout the day, however each day children will be given the opportunity to rest and are able to take part in a quiet activity.
π΄ We will always first and foremost follow the children's individual sleep needs, whilst working in partnership with parents for the best outcomes of each child.
π΄ Here a Watch me grow childcare we know how important sleep and rest is for growing children. With this in mind we want to make this time as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We will using low level lighting and soothing low stimulation background music. Children are a frequently physically checked throughout their sleep to make sure they are comfortable, safe and are, at all times, in sight or hearing.
As always if you have any questions please do contact me and I will do my best to help. π
