Got old shirts sitting in the back of your wardrobe? We need your help!

We are collecting unwanted clothing for our realistic casualty simulation training exercises. To make our emergency scenarios as authentic as possible, we'll cut items away during training, just as they would in a real rescue operation. Afterwards, we will responsibly recycle all fabric through a clothing bank.

Have you ever watched a staff member successfully calm an angry customer, only for a manager to step in and undo all their hard work?

It happens more often than people realise.

In local authorities, housing offices, visitor centres and other public-facing environments, people often arrive already frustrated, stressed or upset. The conflict can start long before they even speak to a member of staff.

When frontline teams receive proper de-escalation training, they can often defuse highly charged situations with patience, empathy and professionalism.

But problems can arise when:

✅ A manager steps in without the same conflict management training and relies on authority rather than de-escalation skills.

✅ The physical environment works against staff, with cramped interview rooms, poor layouts or spaces that make people feel trapped and defensive.

Teaching frontline staff how to manage conflict is only part of the solution.

Managers need the same skills to support their teams effectively, and organisations need to ensure their environments aren't contributing to tension and aggression in the first place.

De-escalation is a skill, not a job title.
