A morning well spent

We've had a lovely time in our local community this morning searching for our flower box🌸🏵🌹

We then went onto explore Pudsey park, where we found pinecones watched the squirrels climb the trees and had a little picnic break for snack.

We love spending time in our community 🌿🐿🌲

This week in toddler room we have been exploring colours! The children have been showing alot of interest in colours at nursery and at home so we have set up a range of activities to able the children to explore colours in different ways. The children really enjoyed the painting activities inparticular as it allowed them to get really messy and mix different colours together to make new ones using lollipop sticks. The children loved the large scale painting allowing them to get even messier and use different colourful resources like balls and bricks to roll and stamp the paint to create marks. The children got very excited during this and decided to use their hands to mix the paint to rub onto their bodies. We also made our own rainbows, using playdough to mould into our own fluffy clouds and different coloured pipe cleaners to bend and insert into the clouds, developing our fine motor skills and hand-eye cordination. We are definitely getting more confident in our colour recognition, well done toddlers !

In toddler room we have made our very own ice pops using frozen fruit and water, the children were so engaged throughout this activity showing great teamwork and concentration ! Our toddlers really enjoyed using different sized ladels and mashing utensils to stir and mash the fruit, developing their fine and gross motor skills. Once all the fruit and water was all mixed together the children helped carefully pour the mixture from the large bowl into the ice pop molds and then added the sticks ready to freeze. This activity helped cool the children down and promoted healthy eating, we then finished our activity with our morning snack which the children loved. Well done toddlers !

Today in preschool, the caterpillar group have been making cats for International Cat day, the children enjoyed using their fine motor skills to paint, glue, stick and decorate their cats. This also enhanced literacy, communication and language by building vocabulary. We used key words such as "cat", "meow", and "whiskers"

We then did some phonics using the letter C. C is for cat ! Our book of the week is Pete the cat the caterpillar group really enjoyed this story, listening to the rhyming words and incorporating phonics with the letter c. The children even decided to do some role playing by pretending to be cats 🐈 . Well done Preschool !

During the month of August, in the little owl resourse calender, there are lots of special events/ days to celebrate different animals. This week there has been International Owl awarness week and International Cat week! In toddler room we have been using our different senses to explore Owl themed playdough, the toddlers were encouraged to use their sense of smell to identify the cinnamon in the playdough and their sense of touch when rolling and molding the playdough into balls. We used our fine motor skills when pinching and carefully placing the feathers and googly eyes onto the dough. The toddlers also really enjoyed using different items to make marks using paint to create their own Owl pictures, we used forks, spoons and sponges to stamp and print the brown paint. When the paint had dried we used glue sticks to add feathers, eyes and a beak to our owls. Throughout we discussed what sounds Owls make, what they look like and where they live. Well done toddlers ! 🦉🪶🤎

Today in preschool the children have been decorating their own owls for National owl awareness day tomorrow 🦉 the children have been using their fine motor skills to glue, stick and colour in their owls. We have been learning about owls and some cool facts the preschoolers have learnt is that owls can turn their heads almost all the way round and they have super hearing, hearing tiny squeaks in the grass ! 🦉🦉we also learnt about where the owls live and their habitat.

The intent of this activity helped strengthen small hand and finger muscles, further building communication and language introducing key words such as "fluffy owl", "nocturnal" and "smooth".
This activity also implemented early mathematics by counting the eyes of the owl and the feathers. Well done preschool !
