5 skills that great toys develop 😊💙🌈

At ELAY Education we are passionate about the Early Years (0-5yrs), because that is THE most important learning and development phase in a child’s brain.
From 0-5 years, the brain is constantly creating new connections and developing at the most rapid pace it will ever be in a person’s life, before it begins to stabilize at age 6.

This is why it is so important that parents take advantage of this incredible time to allow their children to develop and learn as much as possible, while their brains absorb everything like a sponge.

To learn to read English, a child must figure out the relationship between sounds and letters. Thus, the beginning reader must learn the connections between the approximately 44 sounds of spoken English (the phonemes), and the 26 letters of the alphabet.
The development of these critical early reading-related skills, such as phoneme awareness and phonics, are fostered when children are read to at home during the preschool years, when they learn their letter and number names, and when they are introduced at very early ages to concepts of print and literacy activities.

Back by popular demand, we have the transport themed, rhyming books by Tony Mitton. We also have some quality, hard wearing, wooden toys to accompany the books. In terms of early literacy skills these books tick many boxes. Rhyme and rhythm are fundamental to early literacy skills and the books introduce high level vocabulary in a fun, appealing way. I especially love the back pages which highlight key vocabulary linked to each vehicle. What better way to learn, imaginative play, where language is learnt and absorbed without our little ones even realising!

The bugs are back! Well summer is nearly here so there will be plenty of opportunity to get outside and go for a ‘bug hunt’. We all know how much mummies and daddies love having slimy, creepy crawly bugs all over the kitchen table! Over the past couple of months, I think we have all experienced ‘community’ and we have certainly realised what strength we find in the family unit. How we behave with our young children when we are around family and friends has a BIG influence on them.
