Sally-Anne had a great morning at the Stocks Massey music library in Burnley today working with library officers from Lancashire Libraries. This collaboration gives Note Weavers not only the chance to work with library colleagues planning songs and musical activities around children's books, but also a greater understanding of how library staff plan and deliver their fabulous, and free, family sessions. It's a real privilege to be working alongside them in this aspect of our Sound Beginnings project.

Thank you to all who came to our first Connecting Threads - Sharing event this evening, with Emily Sharples from Singing Mamas. What an interesting and inspiring session, the questions and discussion could have gone on all night! Thank you so much Emily, we look forward to hearing from you again in future. So much to think about!

The second of our online 'Connecting Threads - Sharing' sessions will be held on Thursday 15th October, 7pm-8pm.

Atelierista/Creative Practitioner Michiko Fujii will join us to speak about taking inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach through projects with young children. This session will be an informal intro/dialogue to Reggio Emilia practice starting from a personal context and based on:

- MA
- Action research and previous work in preschools
- Creative Partnerships UK inquiry projects in schools
- Early Years work in galleries
- Working internationally as an Atelierista and IB EY collaborative 'Art Specialist'

Michiko, will also speak about how this approach connects to her work in sessions like the 'Imaginarium' at The Bureau - Centre for the Arts in Blackburn.

There will also be the opportunity for questions and discussion.

Emily is passionate about the mental health benefits of group singing for new mums and normalising community singing for all the family.

We are thrilled to be involved once again in Lancaster Music Festival. It is a fantastic event where the city is literally FULL of music. This year it takes place over the weekend of 8th-11th October throughout Lancaster city centre, in shops, pubs, venues and out on the streets. There are workshops, bands, instrumentalists, singers, dancing, and music of a wide variety of styles and genres.
Most of it is free and there really is something for all ages, so if you're in the area, Lancaster is the place to be on the 8th-11th October.

Note Weavers will be there on Sunday 11th involved in Family and Under 5s events.

Firstly, a free drop in session of craft, play and music between 1pm-4pm in The Storey, Music Room:

Just a flavour of our morning yesterday. Looking through the pictures to choose for this reel there were so many smiling faces, and that really was the essence of the morning.
We are delighted that this first informal event went so well, thank you to all attendess for your feedback, and we look forward to running more!

THANK YOU! This post is a BIG thank you from the Note Weaver team (pictured in what we're told is a flattering angle!) to everyone who made today's inaugural Connecting Threads Face to Face Gathering as fabulous as it was.
Firstly, thank you so much to Dr Karen Boardman for such an inspiring presentation and discussion about early literacy, play and music. It gave us plenty to think and talk about. Thank you to RNCM student Sophia who joined us to help assist with all the admin of the day, it was greatly appreciated. Thank you too to the staff at Central Hall MCR for looking after us and keeping us supplied with refreshments throughout the morning.
Finally, many, MANY thanks to attendees who came along; for your energy, enthusiasm, generosity in sharing thoughts, ideas and songs, and all round joining in, you made it what it was.

We are so pleased that Dr Karen Boardman will be opening our morning on Saturday with her presentation 'The Rhythm of Reading: How Play and Music Transform Literacy'. An article published just this week in Nursery World Magazine 7th Sept 2026) states that:

'Research from national children’s literacy charity, Bookmark Reading Charity, conducted by Teacher Tapp, warns that teachers working in more disadvantaged communities are significantly more likely to identify poor early language as a challenge impacting literacy in school than their counterparts in affluent areas.'
