Last week in Trees, we had lots of fun exploring our different emotions and developing the children’s understanding of their feelings. We talked about a range of emotions, including happy, sad, angry, worried and excited, and encouraged the children to think about how they might feel in different situations. The children then created their own ‘emotion monster’, choosing colours and features to represent how they were feeling when they came into nursery. This was a lovely opportunity to support their personal, social and emotional development, helping them to recognise, name and express their feelings while understanding that everyone experiences emotions differently. Throughout the week, we also enjoyed lots of hands-on learning experiences, including Forest School with our teacher Tom, where the children learnt how to safely start a fire. They were encouraged to listen carefully, follow instructions, understand fire safety and ask questions about what they could see, supporting their communication and language, understanding of the world, confidence and ability to manage appropriate risks. On Wednesday, the children were encouraged to decorate their own names using lots of different colours and patterns. This supported their early literacy development as they began to recognise their own names and identify individual letters, while also developing their fine motor skills, pencil control, hand-eye coordination and concentration. We also explored different patterns, with the children tracing and identifying which patterns were the same or different. This helped to develop their mathematical thinking as they noticed repetition, sequences, similarities and differences, while also strengthening their fine motor skills and encouraging perseverance. We ended the week with a fun and exciting rugby session, where the children had the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills through running, balancing, changing direction, coordinating their movements and working as part of a team. The session also encouraged the children to listen to instructions, take turns, cooperate with their friends and build their confidence. Overall, it was a very busy and enjoyable week, with the children developing across many areas of learning through a variety of exciting, practical and meaningful experiences. 🌳❤️
