Life Cycle Learnings ~ Atelier

Inspired by our garden produce and garden environment, children explored realistic image creation using a limited range of creative tools.

Surrounded by the beauty of our garden, and supported through collaboration between the GARDEN ATELIER & LIBRARY TEAM. Year three brought both product and process onto paper in the form of fruits, flowers, vegetables, and other garden resources such as pots, plants, and gardening tools.

Focusing on careful observation, the children aimed for realism in their drawings by following a clear artistic process. They began by creating outline, then established highlights, shaded the midtones, and added deeper shadow tones. They blended and lifted areas to refine their illustrations.

We developed a believable sense of light and depth, capturing the natural forms in front of us with increasing confidence and skill. These illustrations will be used in a very special upcoming Garden and Library project.

What a meaningful experience !

Reception class began their first session of the term by drawing half of a bird's body. This opportunity helped children explore the idea of perspective. Some children had a realistic perspective in their detailing, while others used their imaginations to create a more imaginative interpretations.

Witnessing the magic of independent imaginative play by Badgers! Our Atelier environment is carefully designed to inspire storytelling, role-playing, and collaborative exploration. By engaging in these opportunities, children develop important skills like negotiation of space, planning, and problem-solving. We are here for this play process 🙌
