💬 What I wish parents knew about toddlers learning…

We sat down with our Junior Deputy Manager, Alicia, for a quick Q&A and asked her what she wishes every parent knew about how toddlers learn. 🌱

One of her biggest messages? The simple, everyday moments matter more than you might think.

🍽️ Mealtimes are learning opportunities. Sitting together, chatting about the day, naming foods, asking questions and giving your toddler time to respond can do so much for their communication and language development.

📵 Reducing screen time creates more space for interaction. Toddlers learn through real conversations, play, eye contact, repetition and simply spending time with the people around them.

You don’t always need elaborate activities to support your child’s development. Talking, listening, playing and being present are some of the most powerful learning experiences we can give them. 💛

Small everyday interactions can make a BIG difference.

As a fond farewell, before embarking on their upcoming journey to big school, our preschool children were treated to an exciting day out to central London. Where we explored the wondrous world of Paddington Bear through a variety of immersive experiences, at the ‘Paddington Bear Experience’ in Westminster.

We will miss all our Bluebells and the constant smiles and laughs they bring, but know they are more than ready for this transition as they go on to thrive at primary school. 🩷

Over the last week, the children at Canopy have been exploring all things environmental, with a focus on pollution - in collaboration with World Oceans Day 🌊

Through a range of activities, including litter picking, meaningful tuff trays highlighting the impact of waste on our eco-systems, recycling ♻️, junk modelling and storytelling. The children have learnt a variety of simple but important changes they can make on a daily basis to help protect and care for our planet.

This has proven a valuable opportunity for our young environmentalists to develop a sense of responsibility and respect for the world around them. Inspiring positive habits that will help keep our planet clean for future generations. 🌍

🐞🔎Crawling with curiosity!🔍🪲

Over the last few weeks our young learners have been buzzing with excitement as we delved into the fascinating world of minibeast’s and insects! Curiosity flourished as the children embarked on a variety of bug hunts, leaving no log unturned in search of these tiny creatures. Equipped with magnifying glasses, science scissors, and nets they explored a range of fascinating species up close, developing observational skills and deepening their understanding of the natural world.

Casting our focus to bees 🐝, the children enthusiastically engaged in imaginative role play, bringing the magic of pollination to life. Our topic culminated with a special visit from Beekeeper Annika, who shared captivating insights into a bee’s life cycle and showcased the equipment she uses to harvest honey. The sweetest part of all was tasting Annika’s delicious honey straight from her hives - later inspiring us to bake our very own honey flapjacks!

A spring walk!!💐

Our Willows children enjoyed exploring the great outdoors, discovering wildlife and collecting natural treasures along the way 🌿

At Canopy, this is what we’re all about: nurturing curiosity, adventure and a love for the natural world through meaningful outdoor experiences.

The Canopy Astronauts 👩‍🚀 have had a stellar introduction to space over the last couple of weeks, embarking on countless journeys through the Solar System. Imaginations have run wild, flying rockets 🚀 to descend on various planets and exploring what these had to offer - were they icy and cold or dusty and volcanic? 🪐

A range of immersive opportunities were at their fingertips, proving an exciting way for all cohorts to investigate the wonders of space. From captivating moon rock experiments using baking soda and vinegar to dissolve their creations, to designing our very own rockets and aliens using mixed media.

It was great to see such spark of natural curiosity within this theme, as awe and wonder fostered a deeper intrigue into the wider world, as well as an early introduction to scientific thinking.

*The body 🧠🫀*
Over the last couple of weeks the children at Canopy have been exploring all things body. From learning about their anatomy - assisted by the introduction of ‘Skelly the Skeleton’, to embodying doctors and nurses in our very own surgery.

We were fortunate enough to be joined by two parents working in the medical field, who enhanced the children’s learning by providing opportunity to experiment with various healthcare equipment. Able to listen to each other’s heartbeats, take temperatures, monitor oxygen levels and even bandage their own teddy bears.

This proved a fantastic way for the children to build a deeper understanding of themselves, while developing personal care skills and fostering healthy habits for a lifetime.
