Who am I?
My name is Robyn Stern. I am a Biology and Chemistry Teacher based in Potters Bar. After living and working in South London and Surrey for 7 year I moved to North London in 2015. I have since worked at 2 private schools in the North London Area as a Biology and Chemistry Teacher.

I believe that achievement in Science is something that can be built. An understanding of GCSE Scientific concepts is based on understanding basic principles that are taught at KS3 level, if this understanding is not fostered then students do not engage with science, lose interest and struggle to attain appropriately at KS4. I start all tutor programs with a recap of basic concepts and then build a tutoring programme around any gaps in understanding that a student has.

Science can be tricky for those who don’t enjoy it as a subject. The only way to improve attainment is to constantly review content. A really useful website to use is www.savemyexams.com. It is worth while for parents to purchase a subscription for this if your child is able to work independently. The website allows them to test themselves on exam quality assessment and see when they have knowledge gaps or misunderstandings. If a child is unable to work independently or cannot correct knowledge gaps/ misunderstandings on their own then a tutor is an effective means of improving attainment. However, it is important to remember that even with a tutor a child will need to work on their own on a constant basis.
