Fred’s small friend has a part in the junior chorus for this pantomime in December! He is beyond excited for her, but nervous at leaving her for rehearsals etc with people who haven’t looked after her before. Luckily Curtain Call been amazing regarding her allergy ❤️

He is excited to see her and the cast perform in December!

Fred went to Rapscallions Port Solent at the weekend to celebrate his small friend’s birthday. They could not have been more helpful and attentive with her and her sister’s allergies. Great food, friendly staff and we got to sit in a boat to have lunch!

Today Fred is sad.

It was his small friend’s birthday party today and he’d carefully mentioned her allergies on booking her party and in a phone call with the venue last week too. He was told it was all fine, and his friends had even eaten at the venue before too.

It was not fine. Fred excitedly checked his small friend in at the venue and was told that they couldn’t cater for her. His friend would be unable to eat at her own party!! There had been nothing mentioned before about her allergy to cow’s milk protein being a problem and he was being told at her party that she couldn’t eat. He’d brought no food for her and so had to drive to the local who were, as always fantastic with her allergy. She and her sister were able to enjoy a delicious pizza from Zizzis at the party, whilst the other children ate the party food.

Fred was apologised to and offered half of the payment for the party back, which in the height of the emotions and business of the party, didn’t go and claim.

Fred feels sad as at most parties his friend can’t eat and then now at her own party this was an unexpected issue again. He will be writing a strong complaint letter to the company, but would be very grateful for any suggestions/advice Anaphylaxis UK The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation

Fred was able to go into his small friend’s breakfast club at school today. He was very impressed to see that they had set up her own toaster, on a separate table for her with her own clearly labelled dairy free butter.

First few days of the new school completed and they were so good about being careful with the allergy. Lots of good communication and they are keen to learn more about the reaction.

To help identify the fact that Fred’s small friend has an allergy, she was able to choose a pin to wear to help identify her to other members of staff. She chose Pikachu’s tail and was very chuffed with it and wears it with pride 😀

This week Fred had the privilege of accompanying his small friend to hospital for her screening appointment.

There are no words to describe how lucky we feel that our eldest is able to take part in the The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation milk desensitisation trial at Southampton. She had her first appointment this week with skin prick tests, a blood test, spirometry and lots of questions about her allergy gathered. She was very brave and the staff were fantastic.

Thank you so much to everyone who is making this possible ❤️

Fred’s small friend started a new school today, so he volunteered to go into the school yesterday to help train the staff on what to look out for with his small friend’s allergy. To refresh their memory on how to give an Epipen, he brought a trainer one along to let them practice. His pharmacist knowledge was useful! The teachers were all very receptive and supportive, which made him feel better.

It’s always nerve wracking leaving your child with someone new, let alone when they have a life threatening allergy to something that is everywhere. So having a school that wants you to come in and explain the allergy is very reassuring for the parent.

A great first day of school, with the school taking the allergy very seriously and communicating well with the parents.

It’s nearly time for Fred’s small friends to go back to school, so Fred had been helping them prepare their emergency kits for school.
