Hi followers,
Just want to update you about a current decision...... The conclusion (for now) of a Facebook problem going on five months now. As you may have noticed, this page is only reaching a handful of followers -- not non-followers, hmmm, anyway, I finally received an answer to my supposed unanswerable question that THERE ARE two issues on Crying Buffalo page where it has been restricted for who knows what and my posts are only shown to a few confirmed followers ... no where else, so no wonder its not growing and guess why I know.... Meta AI, yes....not a person but AI had to transfer me to a human to resolve the issue as saying the usual when I do my own basic research that there are no issues and page is recommendable...

Ha! Through a deep-dive, AI found the issue because I never gave-up but realised it needs a human to resolve it as the problem found... So, transferred to a useless human who tried to placate me with pre-schooler jargon. Not interested in wasting my time any longer. So, issue unresolved (clearly) and not interested in researching wildlife things to a severely shrinking audience. Many thanks to the few who are engaging. Really, thanks but please realise my efforts are fueling someone's desperate, constant, attempts to kill the competition.

So, this action might make them think they got somewhere -- sure. Think whatever makes your little world turn for you. It takes too much work to get things out so will not fund anything anymore. Let's take about a month's pause. I am quite sure I will lose followers.

Don't think I will cry about that.

If I mistakenly delete this page -- so be it but if I do not, let's see who is still here after a month. See ya guys, and thank you so much for already being supportive via engaging positively with Crying Buffalo!

Tourism brings in more money and help local communities far more than any money an organised hunt can generate. This is a well-proven fact but one hunting safaris' try really hard to keep a secret. For obvious reasons. Luckily, it's growing more and more difficult for them to hide the truth.

Case in point, an example:

This beautiful antelope is often the most popular antelope tourists wish to see, the Sable antelope. However, it prefers to stay away and is difficult to find. Like the greater kudu, the sable antelope is a woodland antelope, not a forest or grass savanna antelope, and they are pretty good a hiding -- even as a large antelope! One thing which makes the guides' or wildlife enthusiasts' life easier is that these noble animals prefer places near water. So, if possible, it will choose an area near water with good drainage and good grazing.
Native to East and Southern Africa, from the south of Kenya to South Africa, with a separated population in Angola.

The problem is, this often brings them into direct contact with humans, and conflicts happen because that is also an area sought out by people because it's a good place for agriculture and development and pretty scenery.

So, the two species compete for land. Not much of a guess who will win, so this is a challenge for conservationists. Tourism is one avenue which works well for the sable antelope.

This live antelope brings in money to local communities through tourism, and that has proved undeniable..
*This stately antelope's presence has proved to bring in money for local farmers. The Sable antelope is a 'draw-card' and they will lose business, etc. if there are too few or no Sable antelope around.@ Crying buffalo

WHITE LIONS ARE NOT ALBINOS
By Abdulhamid Ibrahim Saikpai

There is a myth held in Africa, that white lions are sacred animals. Some people also have a misconception that white lions are albinos. White lions are not albinos and we cannot deny certain favourable religious beliefs where the animal is not harmed, we can understand that belief as white animals hold great sacred belief all over the world, but the facts are:

Though albino lions do exist (extremely rare), white lions are a separate subset of lions. It is a natural colour. White lions have a reduced volume of melanin (dark pigment), as a result of less severe, recessive mutation called 'leucism'.

Meanwhile, melanin is the pigment that controls the colour of fur and eyes. In short, the eye colour is the best physical feature to differentiate between white lions and albino lions. While albino lions have red, violet, light/watery pale blue or gold eyes; white lions still reveal pale blue or pale blue/grey, or pale green/blue eyes or light golden and hazel eyes.
@ Crying buffalo
I will add, yes, some albinos will have pale blue eyes, but they will show pink eyelids, nose and muzzle (lips and that area) because albinism is a lack of pigment or very, very little but look at the nose and that of this lion, also with pale eyes, there is colour/pigment there -- his nose and that, even in some cases there are patches of colour... That is leucism, so, that is a leucistic animal and not an albino.
By the way, blue eyes have the least pigment of any eye colour.

The world's biggest deer is often thought to be an aggressive animal.
No, they only defend themselves really well from threats. Even if you are casually walking too near one, it might see you as a threat and defend itself.

A moose is actually a peaceful animal and rarely resorts to aggression, but a mother with babies is another story -- she is extremely protective of her calves.
* In most animal species, twin births are rare, but the female moose defies those odds because she often gives birth to twins, sometimes triplets.@ Crying buffalo

The toughest animal on earth:

It is a water-dwelling microscopic animal found just about everywhere, from the top of Mt. Everest to the freezing Antarctica, extreme heat and really dry environments. Nothing stops, or inhibits this creature from surviving. Nothing.

We think cockroaches are tough. Ha! Meet the tardigrade, also called the water bear. This thing is so tough, that they were taken into orbit on a space mission -- where there is no air and a gravity less vacuum. Nothing can survive living there, totally exposed, right?
Once they returned to earth, they did not only survive but laid eggs! @ Crying buffalo

Humans are primates and sometimes other primates remind us of that fact.
By protecting (strong) one particular animal, the first step is securing their natural habitat. By doing that, we are not only saving one species, but a few that feed and live in the same environment, like the little Javan surili. This rare monkey was once found all over the jungles of the island Java, Indonesia.
However, now this little guy is found in fragmented forest area -- most of these are protected lands.
* This is an endangered animal and less than 1, 000 - 2, 100 survive -- only about 4% of their habitat remains -- mainly due to deforestation -- clearing lands for Agriculture. So, to save them we need to control and in some areas, stop further deforestation. @ Crying buffalo

Nature can be confusing, at times. Like this:
There is an animal that looks like a pig, well a wild one, but is not a true pig. True pigs belong to the family, 'Suidae'. This species, the peccary, really looks like one but belongs to a different family -- so, they are not even closely related...Peccaries are DISTANTLY related to pigs-- the peccary's family is called, 'Tayassuidae'.

There are a few behavioral and physical differences between the two, like Peccaries have a scent gland near the base of their tail, which pigs lack (they use them for social interactions). So, if you are strolling through the wilds of North, South and Central America and you come across something 'like a pig', it may be a peccary and then its best to say you saw pig-like animals. Not pigs. A peccary is a pig-like animal.
* Some may think a peccary is a wild pig, like a warthog. No.
A warthog is a pig because it belongs to the pig family -- Suidae. @ Crying buffalo

The rarest type of zebra is that one with those big ears... and also happens to be the largest zebra subspecies:

First, the basics-- 'Zebra' is a species and within that species we find three types, subspecies;
1. the one we usually see on the savannas -- plains or common zebra
2. The mountain zebra
3. This one, the Grevy's zebra, is a rare animal and the most endangered zebra subspecies). This rare zebra was once found roaming many areas of Africa, now too few remain and their population is now scarce and scattered -- mainly due to over-hunting, but now also threatened by habitat loss. They have been introduced to protected lands they once roamed, like Kenya. buffalo

When we see a crocodile secretly observing everything from the water, we usually only see it's eyes and nostrils and assume it's floating...
Did you know crocodile's also use that stealth-water surface look, in this position (their tail is likely used to balance the body) ? Did you know they also do this? @ Crying buffalo

One of the most important and interesting species on the planet. Snakes.

Snakes are mysterious creatures. We still do not fully understand their behaviour -- some questions can be answered simply and some we cannot find an answer for, but one thing is clear...

We believe they have been around 100-150 million years. The Cretaceous period. Today, there are about 3, 000 species that likely evolved from a lizard. These are highly successful animals and their brilliant sense of survival has become the key to understanding snakes -- their need for survival has a strong influence on all the different species.

Snakes cannot migrate to escape certain areas -- be it for food and climactic reasons. So, have adapted well to cope with environmental factors -- for example, some have adapted to survive well and hunt in the freezing snow; while others have adapted to survive well and hunt in hot and very dry deserts.

* Snakes are very important animals in keeping the ecosystem healthy and they are a never-ending source of fascination to zoologists and many other people -- mainly due to their mystery and importance in keeping our world healthy. buffalo
