Yesterday, after 11 years, I hung up my PTA hat. Between my friend Gwen and I, who also stepped down, we have volunteered for over 20 years. This morning I'm feeling proud, a little sad but also a little relieved if I'm honest.

I'm sad it's the end of an era, I have lots of brilliant memories and have met some really good, kind and funny people.

I'm proud because I did my bit, supported my kids and the schools (St Swithuns and St Edmund's Catholic School Portsmouth) they attended. I added value, energy and helped make some memories for a lot of kids.

I'm sad because our PTA is at risk of closing if they can't recruit new parents, carers or friends by November (AGM). Due to the dwindling numbers, the amount of work increases on the few. It doesn't have to be like that, so I hope and pray that others will pick up the baton.

I've always volunteered, made a choice to include it in my priorities, and I will again. I just think I'll have a break first. But I know this, i got lot more out of it than I put in, and I put in a lot. I consider myself lucky.

On Friday St Eds said goodbye to Year 11 with the biggest ever Leavers Assembly. Lots of memories shared and goodbye and good luck wishes. Congratulations Class of 2024
