✨ The calm before the chaos… ✨

The room is set and clean
The books are ready 📚
The props are in place
The bubbles are waiting 🫧
And for approximately 3 minutes… everything is PERFECT 😂

Then the doors open and suddenly there are little feet running, excited voices, songs, stories, giggles, dancing, phonics, cuddles and just a tiny bit of beautiful chaos 🥰

And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way 💕

This is my favourite kind of chaos — the kind filled with curiosity, imagination, learning and a whole lot of fun. 🧚‍♀️📚

We all loved throwing, catching, rolling and bouncing on our giant inflatable apples last week!

I wish I could have taken a photo of the look on the children’s (and adults!) faces when they first saw them. It was pure magic! ✨

🦊Phonic Fox Friday 🦊

This week our Toddler Tales have been learning /a/ for anteater and Story Stars /a/ for apple. Our Reading Recruits have been learning the first 3 sounds that they will learn at school /s/a/t/.

Each Phonic Fox segment in class includes chanting of our focus sound whilst we create a steady beat banging on the mats. The children absolutely love getting involved with banging and chanting along to the beat as in the reel audio.

Did you know that banging a beat or clapping to a rhythm helps children develop phonological awareness—the ability to recognize and work with the sounds in spoken language? This is because music and speech share the same neural timing pathways in the brain.

POV: You joined a toddler class for your child… but you’re now looking forward to seeing the other mums too!

One of my favourite things about running Reading Fairy isn’t just watching the little ones learn, sing, explore and grow… 🧚‍♀️📚

It’s watching the grown-ups make friends too. 🥹💕

Seeing parents arrive not knowing anyone and, over time, watching them start chatting, laughing, swapping stories and making plans outside of class honestly makes my heart so happy.

Because toddler groups aren’t just about keeping little ones entertained. They can be a place where you find your people too. ❤️

The parent you sit next to every week might become the person you message at 7am because your toddler has been awake since 4am. The person you first make small talk with might become your coffee-and-play-date friend. And that little friendship that starts with:
“How old is yours?”can turn into something really special. 🥰

Parenthood can sometimes feel lonely, especially when you’re spending so much of your time caring for someone else.
So seeing friendships grow within my Reading Fairy classes is something I’ll never take for granted. 🫶

The children might come for the stories, songs and phonics…
…but sometimes, the grown-ups find a little village too. 🧚‍♀️💕
And I absolutely LOVE that for you.

Our ‘Farmyard Phonics’ theme is a firm favourite with our children and parents in class. Farm animals are some of the first animals our babies are exposed to and some of the first words that they say may be sounds that farm animals make.

Join our classes next week in which we will be taking a sensory walk on the farmyard and meeting lots of farm animals along the way.

We’re back tomorrow from 9.45am and I can’t wait!!!

After what feels like forever, classes are back and I am looking forward to catching up with all your adventures over the summer!

We will be beginning with our mini theme ‘Alphabet Adventures’, going on an alphabet hunt, meeting some of our favourite puppets, and we will be performing ‘The Enormous Turnip’.

Just a reminder that we have a new timetable so if you are unsure about what time your class begins, please get in touch.

Talking as a mum to a little one who has just started in Reception, it’s so special to make precious memories with your child the year before they begin school and the bonus is they are learning as well as having fun!

Why are nursery rhymes so important for early literacy?
Because before children read print they must hear patterns.

Nursery rhymes develop:
✔ Phonemic awareness ✔ Sound discrimination ✔ Vocabulary ✔ Memory sequencing ✔ Listening skills

They are the foundation beneath phonics; they make blending easier; they make reading less overwhelming; they make literacy joyful; and when children experience rhymes with actions, music and connection — the learning goes even deeper.
