🎶HIGH AND LOW🎶

Exploring high and low is a perfect example of how music can be a multisensory experience. We hear the high and low sounds; we see high and low by moving our instruments or props; we feel high and low by moving our bodies. Sometimes we do them all at once! It's a great way to help your little one's brain and body develop - and did I mention it's fun too?

🎶SMOOTH AND SPIKY🎶

Perhaps not as common as concepts like pitch and tempo, but a wonderful part of music to explore! We can hear when the music is smooth or spiky, and it's natural for children to move their bodies in response, imitating what they hear. With younger ones, we can show them how this feels before they have the co-ordination to do it themselves. It's also a perfect opportunity to explore with our sense of touch - multisensory learning coming to the fore once more. Great musical fun and learning!

I find myself with surplus instruments leftover from the Christmas bags, so here's your chance to grab a bargain!

🎶LOUD AND SOFT🎶

Can you imagine if music was all the same volume? How dull would that be? We love exploring loud and soft in class, hearing the difference, playing in different ways, exploring the change from one to the other with our bodies and visually, and using our voices. It's another musical fundamental that forms the backbone of what we do in Teeny Tunes - and guess what, we have a lot of fun doing it!

🎶TEENY TUNES IS CLOSING🎶

I'm really sorry to tell you that Teeny Tunes will be closing at the end of this block. I have put everything I can into it over these past 18 months, but unfortunately, as much as I love it, it's been increasingly hard to balance the books since the summer. Thank you to everyone who has come along, I hope you have enjoyed yourselves. It's been a delight getting to know people and seeing the children develop, some from tiny babies into walking, talking, singing little people!

The final classes will be on Monday 5 Feb in Portlethen and Monday 7 Feb in Newtonhill.

🎶FAST AND SLOW🎶

This is one of my favourite concepts to explore. Feeling changes in tempo through the body is a powerful way to understand fast and slow, getting faster, getting slower, or changing from one to the other - there are so many ways to play with tempo! We see changes in tempo by moving instruments or props at different speeds; we hear the changes and label them, developing understanding of language; and we feel the changes when we're bouncing or moving to the music. Through Dalcroze workshops I've rediscovered the joy in feeling music through my body - you're never too young or old to enjoy it!

🎶SOUND AND SILENCE🎶

Whichever Teeny Tunes class you attend, we'll be exploring sound and silence. Silence is just as important in music as sound - think about the classic game of musical statues! We explore this in class in lots of different ways, using instruments, our voices, puppets, props and movement. My "freeze" face always creates amusement too 🤣
