10 things you can do alone ⬇️

After a breakup, slowly re-find your own path and stand strong in who you are. Rediscover what you like to do without feeling that you can’t do these things. And some of these ideas help you to heal too.

1.     Find a quiet, comfortable space, and write in a journal about your ex. Don’t hold back. Let it flow to release the pain inside.

2.     Go to your local leisure club and sign up for a class that you have never taken before.

3.     Switch your mobile off. Sit in silence for 10 minutes without wanting to numb, fix or ignore the feelings arising inside.

4.     Go for a walk in the woods, by the sea, in the hills and valleys, a city park or even scrap-land. Notice the variety of shapes, sizes and colour, which soothes the mind.

5.     Call a family member or a good friend. Not a message or an email—but an actual phone call.

6.     Go to the cinema by yourself. Pre-book the tickets so you don’t have to queue alone and get lost in the cinematic experience.

7.     Write a letter to your ex that YOU WILL NOT SEND. Tell him/her exactly how you feel about the breakup. Afterwards, burn your letter in a safe space.

8.     Go for a meal to eat solo. Stay present. Resist the temptation to scroll through social media or rush your meal.

9.     At home, turn the music up loud and dance with total freedom.

10.  Bake a cake and share it with those who are supporting you.

After a painful event—a breakup, the loss of a loved one, or an awful argument—it’s often hard to let go. Our mind circles around what happened, replaying the event our mind’s eye and wishing we could go back in time to do things differently.

We ask ourselves, “Why can’t I let this go?” Yet this question throws blame into the mix, and because there isn’t an easy answer, the question also keeps us stuck.

Instead, curiosity questions such as “What is unfinished?” and “What emotion am I trying not to feel?” make the mind shift gears. These more specific questions make it easier to see the bigger picture and enable you to move on.

When the sea is like a mirror and the sun rises over the castle and there is no-one there - just me. This is a magical way to start the day 😍

My lovely new office. Peek into where I work - I love this new space and the view is calming too.

Life and Bank Holidays don’t come with guarantees of sunshine. We can moan—and sometimes we need to—yet we can also decide to ‘do it anyway’, despite any grey clouds or rain.

Last night, the forecast was for heavy rain and strong winds. Could I swim in the morning? I knew there would be wonderful high tide at Portland Castle, which would make a swim there really great.

I woke up this morning to rain, but the wind was light. So, I decided to drive to Portland Castle instead of walking there. In my car, I wriggled out of my clothes - my cossie was already on. I ran from the car, wrapped in a towel, clutching my cap and goggles to the slip way. No one else was mad enough to be there. I walked into the sea, dipping my shoulders under the water - cool, but not cold.

I swam with easy strokes, rain drops tip-tapping on my cap. Breathing in, following my hands as they cleanly sliced into the water, catching it and pushing back, breathing air out in bubbles under the water, head turning and breathing in again. Arms with high elbows and a lazy kick perfected over decades in my love affair with swimming in the sea.

Then, magically, at the end of my swim, a large shoal of fish, each the length of my hand, surrounded me. This is rare near to the castle - how wonderful to see so many of them, inches from me.

It would have been easy to have stayed in bed, to not go out in the rain. Yet, it is sometimes in these moments we get to experience an unexpected joy or pleasure.

I’m still hoping for sunshine for tomorrow - I have a garden fence to paint 🤞- but if it’s not to be, I will splash in the puddles instead 😊.

My home in Italy - Casa Tranquilla - is so very nearly finished. See my mini tour.

Today was a good day - three of the six due arrived. Just three to chase up again tomorrow. My home is in a maze of tiny streets the historical centre of Pizzo. Receiving parcels to furnish and decorate my home from scratch is tricky. I’m slowly training the regular couriers to call me from the main road above. Then I run up the hill to meet them to get my parcel. But so many parcels get lost. Last week, I tracked down 8 parcels to a restaurant. Some of these had been there for more than 2 weeks! The owner, kindly took them in for me, despite not knowing me. He simply thought I knew and I’d be along soon. And through Italian eyes, it was soon 😂 But as you can see, running up the hill when it is so hot, is a sweaty endeavour 🤣
