What's the first thing we do in Life Ready Mentoring? Most people assume we'd start by talking about GCSEs. We don't.

Before we discuss exams, revision or future plans, we spend time getting to know the young person sitting in front of us.

Every teenager has their own story. Some have lost confidence. Some feel overwhelmed. Some are struggling with motivation. Others simply need an adult who will listen without judgement.

That's why the first step in Life Ready is all about building trust, discovering strengths and creating a personalised mentoring plan. Everything else grows from there.

Life Ready Mentoring is designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students who need support building confidence, resilience, organisation and direction as they prepare for life beyond school.

Students figure out pretty quickly which adults mean what they say and which ones might let the same behavior slide.

One teacher redirects it. Another ignores it. Someone else gives a consequence that never came up before. The student hasn’t changed, but the response has. After enough of that, students start testing the adults instead of learning the boundary.

Consistency across adults doesn’t mean everyone has to sound the same. It means students shouldn’t need to guess whether the expectation still counts when a different person walks into the room.

Are we preparing our children for a world that no longer exists?

It's a question I've been thinking about a lot recently. When I was at school, success was often about remembering information, passing exams and following a fairly predictable path into work.

But the world our children are growing up in looks very different. Artificial intelligence can answer questions in seconds. Careers are changing faster than ever. Many of the jobs today's children will do don't even exist yet.

So perhaps the most important question isn't: "What do our children know?" It's: "Are we helping them become adaptable, confident and resilient enough to thrive in an uncertain future?"

Don't get me wrong, knowledge will always matter. English, maths and science remain incredibly important, but alongside those subjects, should we also be helping young people develop confidence, communication, resilience, curiosity and the ability to think for themselves?

These are some of the questions I explore in my latest article, "Are We Preparing Children for a World That No Longer Exists?"

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts: Do you think education needs to evolve, or do you think we've got the balance about right?

3 of the 10 September places have now been reserved!

When I launched Life Ready Mentoring, my aim wasn't to create another tuition programme. It was to create something I wish more young people had access to.

A space where they can build confidence, develop resilience, become more organised, explore their future and have someone in their corner throughout one of the biggest years of their lives.

Life Ready is designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students who would benefit from monthly one-to-one mentoring alongside school or tuition.

Together we'll focus on:

βœ” Confidence and self-belief

βœ” Organisation and study habits

βœ” GCSE preparation

βœ” Managing pressure and setbacks

βœ” Future planning

βœ” Building the life skills that matter beyond exams

To ensure every student receives the time and attention they deserve, I'm limiting the first cohort to just 10 students.

I'm delighted that 3 of those places have already been reserved, leaving 7 places available for a September start.

πŸ’· Investment: Β£200 per month

If you'd like to find out more or apply for a place, simply complete the enquiry form below, and I'll be in touch personally.

β˜• Friday Focus

Why August is my favourite month as a founder.

Most people see August as a quieter month.

I see it as an opportunity.

When the diary isn't quite as full, and the inbox slows down, there's finally room to work on the business instead of constantly working in it.

This week alone I've been able to launch new mentoring services, build new systems, refine client onboarding and lay the foundations for projects that will hopefully make a real difference over the coming year.

None of those things would have happened if I'd waited until September. The lesson?

Don't waste your quieter seasons.

Use them to build the business you'll need when life inevitably gets busy again.

I'd love to know...

What are you building this August?

Sometimes the first step is simply starting the conversation.

Over the past few months, many people have contacted me about mentoring, consultancy, speaking and support. Until now, those enquiries have come through emails, Facebook messages, LinkedIn and phone calls.

To make things a little easier, I've created a single 'Work With Jason' enquiry form.

Whether you're:

🟧 Looking to grow your business through founder mentoring,

🟩 A school wanting support with inclusion, leadership or staff development,

🟦 A parent looking for guidance through the education system,

🟨 Interested in my new Life Ready Mentoring programme for Year 10 and 11 students,

🎀 Or you're looking for a keynote speaker for your event...
..the form is the easiest way to tell me a little about your situation.

Every enquiry is reviewed personally by me, and if I think I'm the right person to help, I'll get in touch to arrange an informal conversation.

No pressure. No obligation. Just the start of a conversation.

πŸ“© You can access the form here: https://forms.gle/n6UYkegZSaRyoBbG6

I look forward to hearing your story. 😊

Have we become so determined to help children succeed... that we've accidentally made them afraid to fail?

It's a difficult question. As teachers and parents, every instinct tells us to protect our children from disappointment. We want to remove obstacles, solve problems and make life a little easier than it was for us.

But what if struggle isn't always the enemy?

Over the years, I've worked with hundreds of young people, and one thing has become increasingly clear: many aren't afraid of hard work; they're afraid of getting it wrong.

Yet when I look at the most successful people I know - business owners, tradespeople, teachers, leaders- they all have one thing in common: They've failed. Repeatedly. And those failures didn't hold them back; they helped shape who they became.

In my latest article, I explore why resilience, perseverance and the confidence to keep going may be more important than ever in a world where AI can provide information instantly.

Perhaps success isn't about protecting young people from failure. Perhaps it's about helping them discover they're strong enough to overcome it.

Well… the first draft is finished! πŸŽ‰

47 pages of the North Somerset Parent Pathways Handbook are now complete.

What started as an idea to help parents understand what options actually exist when school stops working has turned into a pretty substantial guide covering everything from EHCPs, Alternative Provision and EOTAS to reduced timetables, funding, home education, personal budgets and where to go for support.

The next step is really important. I'm going to send the first draft to the relevant local authorities/services and a small number of selected readers to fact-check it, challenge anything that needs challenging and identify anything I've missed.

Then I'll make the final amendments ready for the September launch.

Nearly there! πŸ“˜πŸ™Œ

Your child doesn't need to become more intelligent. They need to believe in themselves.

Every year I meet students who can succeed but struggle with confidence, organisation and motivation.

That's exactly why I've created my new Premium Year 11 Mentoring Programme.

GCSEs are about more than passing exams.

For a small number of Year 11 students, I'm opening applications for a new premium mentoring programme.

This isn't traditional tuition. It's for students who are serious about succeeding in their GCSEs and want the guidance, accountability and mindset coaching that helps them perform at their very best.

Together we'll focus on:

βœ… GCSE strategy and exam preparation
βœ… Building confidence and resilience
βœ… Weekly accountability and goal setting
βœ… Overcoming procrastination and self-doubt
βœ… Study techniques that actually work
βœ… Preparing for college, sixth form and beyond

This is a highly personalised programme delivered by me, drawing on my experience as a teacher, education consultant and founder of Mr Gillman Tuition.

Places will be strictly limited to ensure every student receives the individual support they deserve.

If you have a child entering Year 10 or Y11 this September and would like to find out more, send me a message to arrange an initial conversation.
