The Tug O War Competition is run every other year and is always a great competition between Form classes.

The charity this year was Shelter Box, a charity who raise funds to provide shelter for those individuals caught up in war, famine, etc.

Final totals are not out yet but it is expected that they will raise in excess of £700!

Enjoy some snaps from the event. 💪 💪 💪

What a week for PC football, played three and won three!!

The U16 boys made it through to the third round of the NI U16 Plate with a 4-0 win away to Omagh Academy on Tuesday, and went on to defeat St. John the Baptist College 2-1 in the Mid Ulster Cup quarter-final on Thursday.

A tense encounter with PC scoring the winner in extra time. A special mention to Zak Richardson - top performances in both games and also keeper Matthew Po***ck for two outstanding saves to keep us in the game v St. John’s.

The U16 girls also made it through to the semi-final of their Mid Ulster Cup after a hard fought victory against a spirited Armagh High School on Friday.
The winning goal coming again in extra time from Hannah Davidson following a Keeley Telford free kick. POTM Makyla Stevenson, solid in defence throughout the game.

Well done to both squads 🌟 🌟

PC Business Club

Business Club students gained some insight into running a McDonald’s franchise when John McCollum, franchisee of McDonald’s Portadown, Banbridge, Lurgan, McKinstry Road, Rushmere, Newry and Sprucefield attended in November.

Students were able to develop their understanding of franchising as a form of business ownership whilst trying their luck at a quizz, “How well do you really know McDonald’s?”.

John discussed his role as a franchisee as well as the role of McDonald’s within the community. Students also discussed with John, how the business had evolved over the past 30 years with focus areas including technology, sustainability and pricing.

Many thanks to John for giving up his time and delivering his inspirational presentation.

PC Business Club

This month in Business Club, students enjoyed an engaging presentation from Dave Linton, founder of Madlug.

Dave inspired students, discussing how he set up this social enterprise with £480, and how he came up with their ‘Buy one, Wear one, Help one’ approach.

Madlug have experienced exciting growth as a business which results in delivering great social impact. Students gained insight into the risks and rewards of starting a business as well as the benefits and drawbacks of operating a social enterprise.

Many thanks to Dave for giving up his time to share his experience with our young people.

for every child and young person in care.

QUB Languages Hub 2023.

Students from the Craigavon Area Learning Community - Lurgan College and St Ronan’s College, joined us recently for an event hosted in our 6th form centre .

The speakers were Lecturers Dr Siobhra Aiken and Dr Tori Holmes from Queen's University Belfast, and Dr Christine Le Sann, who works locally in the science industry.

The students heard how languages can improve your job prospects, travel opportunities, friendships and communication skills and how highly employers value them as a skill.

Pictured are PC teacher Miss Boyd with students Emma and Nikol. All 65 students had an enjoyable day!

Our U16 volleyball teams took part in the NI League tournament this week. All 4 teams enjoyed competitive matches at UUJ with our Girls team unluckily losing out in the Group stages to a Dalriada team who were the eventual winners. This meant they played in Division 2 but came out on top as the clear winners of this division.

Year 14 students in Portadown College were involved in a recent interview skills day. In preparation for future careers, they completed an application form using a professional job description, a level 3 literacy and numeracy aptitude test and an interview based on their chosen career area.

The College is very grateful to the volunteers from parents and the local business community from a wide range of different careers who gave up their time to help facilitate the interviews.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and have received valuable advice on application and interview techniques.
