Insecurity Insight » 14/08/2026

🔍 Resource Spotlight: Insecurity Insight

Insecurity Insight researches and reports on threats to aid workers, healthcare workers, and civilians in conflict-affected environments. Their work covers everything from attacks on healthcare facilities to the impact of insecurity on humanitarian access.

It's a good one to follow if your work touches healthcare security, or if you want a sharper picture of how conflict and insecurity affect service delivery on the ground, not just personnel safety.

❓ Has anyone here used their data or reports in your own risk assessments?

Right now, 17 members of are out in Vietnam 🇻🇳

The team are kayaking and paddling 🛶 through Ha Long Bay and Ba Be Lake in the north, before heading south to Saigon, the Mekong Delta and Can Tho.

With Pilgrim Bandits being our partner charity, we’ve watched the team plan, prepare and move through unfamiliar terrain thousands of miles from home — and it’s been a reminder of something I already believed but see more clearly out here:

Preparation isn’t a formality. 📋

It’s what lets people push further than they thought possible, safely. 💪

That’s exactly the thinking behind our online Gap Year Travel Safety & Risk Management course 🌍 — helping students plan smarter, stay safer on the ground, and know what to do if something goes wrong, so they can travel with real confidence.

We are incredibly proud to support Pilgrim Bandits and the work they do. 🙏

Stay safe out there — you can find the link to the course in our bio. 🔗

Aid Worker Security Database | Aid Worker Security Database 12/08/2026

📊 Resource Spotlight: Aid Worker Security Database (AWSD)

For anyone who wants the hard data behind aid worker security, the AWSD tracks and reports global statistics on major attacks against humanitarian workers, going back years.

It's a genuinely useful tool if you're trying to understand trends over time, such as how risk to national staff compares to international staff, or how security incidents are shifting by region and year.

❓ Do you track incident data like this in your own risk planning, or does it tend to stay at the "big picture" level?

International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) 10/08/2026

🌍 Resource Spotlight: International NGO Safety Organisation - INSO

If GISF is the global policy and research voice for NGO security, INSO is the boots-on-the-ground equivalent. INSO provides live security coordination, incident analysis, and threat information directly to NGOs operating in specific high-risk countries.

Where GISF helps you think about security strategically, INSO helps NGOs on the ground make day-to-day operational decisions, what's safe to travel through today, what's just happened nearby, what other organisations are seeing.

❓ If you've worked in a country with INSO coverage, how did it change the way your organisation operated day to day?

International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) An international NGO dedicated to humanitarian safety. Founded on humanitarian principles, our mission is simple: to save lives.

📌 A quick heads up for anyone who follows us here on Facebook: we also post on LinkedIn, and it's a bit different from what you'll see on this page.

Each week we try to put out a longer-form piece, industry observations, breakdowns of research like the GISF reports we've shared recently, and thoughts on where we see risk, security, and duty of care heading. It's less quick-hit content and more the kind of thing you'd sit down and actually read.

If that sounds like your kind of content, come find us there:

Resources - Global Interagency Security Forum 07/08/2026

🌍 A great free resource for anyone working in security, risk, or the humanitarian space: the Global Interagency Security Forum (GISF).

GISF is a member-led network of 130+ NGOs, and their resource library at gisf.ngo/resources is genuinely one of the best open collections out there for practical, real-world guidance.

A few areas covered that we think our community will find useful:

🤝 Partnerships & Duty of Care — guidance on how risk should be shared fairly between international and local partners, and what duty of care actually looks like in practice
🛩️ Drones — some of the most current thinking anywhere on how drones are changing risk, visibility, and access in humanitarian and conflict-affected environments
🎓 Training & NGO Security Management — practical guides covering everything from risk appetite statements to on-the-ground security planning
🛡️ Private Security Providers & Safety — guidance on working safely and responsibly with contracted security
⚖️ Legal Obligations & Communications — support for navigating the legal side of security decisions, and for staying safe when representing an organisation publicly

Whether you're a security professional, NGO staff member, contractor, or just someone who wants to understand this space better, it's well worth a browse. Free access, no paywall for most of it.
