Welcome to Connect Foundation Stage! 🌟

What a fantastic start to the school year! Nearly 420 of our newest starters have joined our family of schools and we couldn't be prouder of how well they have settled in 💙
From forest school to making new friends, they've already shown so much curiosity, confidence and kindness. A huge thank you to our families for your support and to our brilliant Foundation Stage teams for making every child feel so welcome.

🖍️📚 Literacy Fun! 📚🖍️

In Literacy, we have been immersing ourselves in our new text, “The Day the Crayons Quit”! 🌈🖍️

Today, we had lots of fun acting out one of the letters, using actions to help us learn it by heart. 🎭✨

Then, we put our creativity to work and created our very own story maps to help us remember the sequence of the letter. We had some fantastic ideas! 🖍️📝

🤸‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ Wonderful Work in PE at The Cove! 🤸‍♂️

Look at our wonderful work in PE this afternoon! 🌟

In gymnastics, we have been learning how to move and balance at different heights. Today, we took our learning onto the equipment, practising how to move safely on, off and around it.

We discovered so many interesting ways to jump, hang, climb and balance – just look at us go!

We had so much fun developing our confidence, coordination and movement skills. What fantastic gymnasts!

🎨 All About Me – Our First Self-Portraits! 🖌️

As part of their ‘All About Me’ topic, our Foundation children have been exploring portraits and learning what makes each of us unique.

During their Learning Through Play time, the children have been using paints and pens to draw and paint their own portraits. They also had great fun using Perspex boards to draw portraits of their friends, looking carefully at the different lines and shapes they could see.

In our art lessons, the children began by painting a colourful wash, choosing colours linked to The Colour Monster to represent how they were feeling – yellow for happy, pink for loved and green for calm.

On Friday, it was time to create their final self-portraits! Using mirrors, the children looked carefully at their own features before putting pencil to paper and creating their wonderful artwork.

The children will create a self-portrait every year during their time at our school, giving us a very special way to see how they grow and develop as artists. We think they have done an incredible job with their very first one – each portrait is as beautiful and unique as the child who created it! ❤️

🌼 Planting for Spring! 🌼

What wonderful weather we have had this week! Our Foundation children have made the most of it, spending lots of time learning and exploring in our outdoor classrooms.

This week, the children have also been busy planting daffodil bulbs, ready to bloom in the spring.

Before planting, we explored the bulbs together, talking about what they looked and felt like. The children used their senses to investigate their shape, texture and papery outer layer. We thought about why a bulb has this special covering, describing it as a little “coat” that helps to protect it when it is planted in the cold ground.

The children carefully planted their bulbs and showed lots of curiosity about what might happen next. We talked about how the bulbs will begin to grow beneath the soil before their shoots eventually appear above the ground.

Now comes the exciting part – waiting, watching and looking for those first signs of growth! We can’t wait to see our beautiful daffodils bloom in the spring.

🐉 A World of Dragons and Hobbits! 🐉

This week, some of our Year 5 and Year 6 children have delved into a world of dragons, hobbits and imagination!

Throughout the week, the children have been busy creating a fantastic range of work. On Friday, they invited the rest of the school to come along and explore their special showcase.

There was so much creativity on display, including videos, puppet shows, Pokémon-style cards, clay dragons and some wonderful artwork.

The children were incredibly proud to share what they had created and talk to others about their work.

🪜 Jacob’s Ladder Challenge! 🌟

Some of our Year 5 and Year 6 children reached new heights as they took on Jacob’s Ladder!

Working together, they had to climb higher and higher as the gaps between the logs became increasingly challenging. It was a fantastic test of teamwork, communication, determination and trust, with plenty of encouragement from their friends below.

A brilliant example of what can be achieved when you work together and keep going! 👏
