A very knackered but pleased 2am post op neurosurgery ST1. Many of the core procedures we need for training, especially at the start are emergencies rather than planned elective cases - so that means staying late to get the exposure we need. But very lucky to be paired up with some really excellent trainers and get great teaching

A truly fantastic weekend at - the 50th annual Association of Surgeons in Training conference.
Enormously interesting sessions, great networking and the chance to stand up alongside fantastic colleagues as one of the Silver Scissors nominees - huge congratulations to Miss Lina Alim for taking home the gold!
Equally huge thanks to Raiyyan Aftab & Emily Mills for their hospitality as always - and congratulations to Miss Mills for her new role as ASiT President. This trainee-led conference for trainees attracts world-level experts and figureheads in surgery - it's a truly inspiring place to be. Was delighted to co-deliver a talk on 'FY3' years to an immensely packed room - enjoyed them so much I did two!
And thank you to all the medical students who came to say hello - very proud to be able to say we were able to do some transhemispheric networking in real time courtesy of Mr Simon Fleming which must set some sort of record.

Thank you for having me to speak at the Annual Medsoc dinner this weekend. An enormous privilege to visit such a beautiful setting.

Fun industry filming day and last minute weekend escape. Your annual reminder to keep your non-medical skills alive, as you never know when they'll come in handy and let you stay in hotels that look like Hogwarts (plus a pool without any big snakes in)

4 years as a doctor ✅
1 day as a trainee neurosurgeon ✅
Here's to the next step on the journey - slightly terrified by the amount ahead to learn, but determined to enjoy the process. 🧠
And a walkable commute short enough to deliver my wife an iced coffee intact of course.
