๐ค Like philosophers, we teach learners to carefully examine ideas, connecting them into clear arguments that can stand up to scrutiny.
๐ One way we practise this is through our weekly Big Question - a philosophical discussion that encourages children to debate, listen and explore different opinions. They learn to talk and write in ways that are convincing, using evidence and reasoning to support their knowledge and beliefs.

Our little learners at Winyates have been busy becoming super smile heroes! ๐ As part of East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust the children have been learning all about healthy habits, including how to keep their teeth sparkling clean through good brushing routines. ๐ฆท
Through fun activities and discussions, we explored how to look after ourselves and why keeping healthy is so important. This learning links to the EYFS Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development goals, helping children build independence and healthy habits for life. ๐

๐ฆ Our Winyates Ducklings! ๐ฆ
We have been incredibly lucky at Winyates to welcome some very special visitors into our classroom โ our very own ducklings! From watching them hatch from eggs to caring for them each day, the children have loved every moment of this exciting experience. ๐
Having the ducklings in school has created so many wonderful learning opportunities. The children have explored the life cycle of a duck through exciting activities and produced some amazing writing about each stage of their journey. They have also had lots of fun naming our ducklings, drawing detailed pictures, and labelling the different parts of a duck. โ๏ธ๐จ
This hands-on experience has sparked so much curiosity, care and excitement, creating memories we know the children will treasure for a long time. We are so proud of the enthusiasm and fantastic learning they have shown throughout this special experience! ๐

๐จโ๐ Last Friday, Year 5 enjoyed an exciting visit to the Space Centre to further embed their learning about space. The children explored interactive exhibits, learnt more about our solar system and discovered the wonders of space exploration.
โญ The visit brought our science learning to life, giving pupils the opportunity to see real-life examples of many of the concepts they have been studying in class. They were particularly excited to learn about planets, rockets and the challenges faced by astronauts living and working in space. ๐

๐ฃ Itโs okay to question things! We're helping children look at ideas with a curious mind.
Instead of just accepting what they hear, theyโre learning to check sources, look for evidence, and decide for themselves if something is trustworthy. Itโs all about building critical thinking skills! ๐

๐ฉโ๐ณ Meet our kitchen crew!
Today is National Caterers Appreciation Day and we are celebrating the team who keep our children fueled with delicious and nutritious food each day.
They both shared how much they love being around the children, creating a warm, friendly environment where no two days are the same! Their ultimate reward is knowing that the healthy, tasty meals they prepare from scratch help fuel our children so they can thrive throughout their school day.
A big THANK YOU! Our kitchen staff do so much more than cook; they bring energy, care, and kindness to our school every day.
Discover their personal favourite foodsโand don't forget to save the recipes to try at home this week! ๐ถโจ

๐ As we come to the end of another fantastic half term at Winyates, I would like to say a huge thank you to our incredible children, staff and families for all of their hard work, support and positivity.
๐ซ Summer 1 has been filled with so many memorable moments and achievements across the school. We were incredibly proud to host our first EYFS Reception Network meeting, bringing together colleagues from across the region to collaborate, reflect and share strong, evidence-informed early years practice. It was fantastic to see such a positive response and we are excited about continuing this important work moving forward.
Our children have also enjoyed a range of exciting enrichment opportunities this half term. We were thrilled to welcome the explorerdome into school. The immersive science experience allowed children across the school to step inside the dome and experience learning in a completely new way, bringing science to life in a truly engaging and memorable manner.๐
Year 5 also had a fantastic Ecology Day at Peterborough Services. The children explored the landscaped grounds, learned about sustainable and ecological features and took part in an interactive workshop focused on local habitats, where they even planted their own wildflower seeds. ๐ฟ
As part of our half-termly visit to Maples Care Home, our House and Vice Captains spent the morning planting sunflowers in the residentsโ garden. Opportunities such as these continue to help our children develop kindness, confidence and a strong sense of community.๐ป
We are also incredibly proud of our Year 6 children, who approached SATs week with maturity, resilience and determination. They represented the school brilliantly and should be extremely proud of themselves.๐
โญ Thank you once again for your continued support. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable half term break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Summer 2.
