If you’ve heard that from your Year 11, the next question is: do they actually know what to do when they sit down?

With Paper 1 mocks next term, Biology, Chemistry and Physics can feel like an enormous amount to tackle alone. That’s why Lacey and I are running a GCSE Science Paper 1 Intensive Revision Day on Friday 30 October.

In three live 90-minute sessions, we’ll take students through key Paper 1 content, help them tackle GCSE-style questions and teach them how to turn what they know into marks. They’ll have practice questions to use afterwards, too.

I’m a former Head of Science with 20 years’ teaching experience, and Lacey is an experienced Chemistry examiner. We know where students get stuck, and we’ll help them make real progress before those mocks.

it can be such a game changer to be around other students that want to learn, and to have access to an environment where there is zero disruption from pupils that don’t want to learn. Pupils don’t even have to have their camera on or speak out loud, because answers are submitted in the chat bar to me. I can then give pupils individual feedback and respond in real time in the lesson. No waiting for a teacher to have to mark their books before they get any feedback. Most parents assume their child is struggling with GCSE Science because they’re not revising enough.

So they tell them to revise more, buy another revision guide, or spend hours making notes… and wonder why their grades still aren’t improving.

The thing nobody mentions?

More revision doesn’t automatically mean better revision.

If your child doesn’t know exactly what they need to learn, how to retrieve it from memory and how to turn that knowledge into marks on an exam paper, another three hours staring at a revision guide won’t fix the problem.

That’s why my tuition doesn’t just teach students more science.

I teach them how to understand it, remember it and answer the questions AQA actually asks.

That’s where the marks are.

Year 11 always goes quicker than people realize. One minute you’re doing the back to school shop the next it’s November mocks, and suddenly Christmas is here. GCSE science can be stressful. I absolutely adore the subject but I accept that’s not the case for everyone.
Small group tuition can be the thing that turns it around. Weekly sessions to build understanding, develop exam technique, strengthen resilience, it helps across the board.
In small groups where everyone is there to learn, a supporting environment with zero disruption where your child can just get the expert support needed to raise their attainment in Science.

I think sometimes parents feel like they should be able to help with GCSEs.

But genuinely… why would you know how to teach GCSE Science? 😂

You have your own job. Your own life. A million other things to think about.

You shouldn’t also need to know what’s on AQA Paper 2, whether your child actually understands electrolysis, why they keep losing marks on 6-mark questions or whether making 47 beautiful flashcards counts as revision.

That’s my job.

I teach the Science, work on the exam technique, explain the bits they don’t understand and give them that regular weekly structure.

And you get to stop trying to be their Science teacher.

Which, quite frankly, is probably better for everyone involved 😂
