Is this the Davos of the future?
This week the World Economic Forum meets at Davos for the 52nd time.
Founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, a business professor at the University of Geneva and first named the European Management Forum, it changed its name to the World Economic Forum in 1987 broadening its vision to include providing a platform for resolving international conflicts.
This year it celebrates another major milestone with the introduction of the Global Collaboration Village.
The Global Collaboration Village takes place in the metaverse and has been designed to function and look like the real Swiss town, except that here the people convening in co-working spaces, attending conferences in government buildings, and browsing museums will be doing so as avatars.
According to WEF executive chairman Klaus Schwab, as reported in Time Magazine, “the village will serve as a consistent meeting ground for Davos’ stakeholders, transforming the conference from a cloistered one-week gathering to a year-round project which could revolutionize global collaboration.”
The village is being built using Microsoft Mesh, the immersive upgrade of Teams, with dozens of partners enlisted to populate the village, including Meta and the IMF, and will be accessed either through virtual reality or via your phone or laptop.
In a week which also sees South Korea launching a metaverse replica of Seoul as part of a three-year effort to expand its public services, the Global Collaboration Village is just a tiny taste of what's already happening and to come, in the metaverse. The full rollout of VR and AR technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we connect and collaborate with people and businesses across the globe.
This February, Immersive Business at Falmouth University is hosting "Plug into the Metaverse" an exciting two-day event on February 23rd and 24th, where attendees will have the opportunity to experience the cutting-edge technology and possibilities of the metaverse and hear first-hand from expert speakers about the opportunities it presents in every area of life from health to education, politics, environment, technology, community, agriculture, commerce, manufacturing and more.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to see the future of virtual collaboration in action and gain a competitive edge in this rapidly advancing field.
