Submissions for the 2026 Young Artists’ Summer Show are now open!

It’s free to enter, and chosen works will be exhibited online and onsite at the RA this summer. To enter you need to be aged 4-18 and studying in the UK. All artworks will be judged by a panel of passionate artists and art professionals.

If you are aged 8-16 and live in Midlothian, Join Seeds of Disruption today (22nd) and next Friday 29th August at 2pm - 4pm One Dalkeith to take part in a free creative workshop. The work produced will be included in a larger poetry installation at Vogrie Pogrie Festival next month!

A lovely quiet moment of prep before Sacred Heart Primary’s art club for the little ones today 🎨✨

I’m getting the armatures ready so they can create their own clay animals this afternoon. We’ll be using our observation skills, looking carefully at shapes and details, and then bringing their ideas to life in clay 🐾🖐️

Can’t wait to see what they make! 💕🖤

The children at Sacred Heart have absolutely smashed it with their clay models in after-school art club! 🎉🎨

Using air-dry clay, they learned how to build strong structures with armature, explored construction techniques, and (just as importantly) developed loads of problem-solving and resilience along the way.

Watching them tackle wobbly arms, cracked tails, and wild ideas with such determination and creativity has been a joy. Clay can be tricky stuff – but these young artists took it in their stride! 👏👐

Well done, Sacred Heart artists – we’re so proud of what you’ve created!

This week our after school club are playing with clay. They’ve learnt about armature, and how quick you need to work with clay when you are in a hot and sunny classroom!
These are ready to be dried ready for adding some colours next week.

Victoria Day Art Class - p4-p6 class - NOW FULL

For the past few weeks I’ve been running an afterschool art club at Sacred Heart Primary School in Penicuik. We’ve been drawing and painting animals, learning how to look. Today we were learning how to use tracing paper to transfer our designs on to the paper we wanted to paint on, and learning that these can be used again and again. Then with only our 3 primary colours - blue, red & yellow - and a bit of white, mixing the wide range of colours that we wanted for our butterflies. Here’s a few of the butterflies I caught before they flew off home 🦋🦋🦋
