We met tonight to choose the photos for our 2027 Calendar kindly supported by Holland & Sherry.

Unfortunately we are short of one photo for the month of June. Is there any budding photographers out there that has a photo of Peebles High Street and the bands playing at the retreat we could use please.

An update on the Christmas Tree situation

Thank you to everyone who commented on our post about SBC not funding a Tree for our Town this year. Thankfully, through the powers of Social Media a Tree has been kindly donated.

Last month, one of our youngest volunteers, Jess McKenzie, was awarded the inaugural Guildry Corporation of Peebles Medal.

We couldn’t be prouder of Jess and this well-deserved recognition. The dedication she shows to the group is truly inspiring. Whether it’s standing out in all weathers, arriving at 6am on a Sunday morning, or being one of the last to leave after a day’s work, Jess never complains and is always ready to lend a hand.

Having young volunteers like Jess is a real privilege, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything she does. Alongside Joe, another fantastic young member of our team, they both prove that hard work, enthusiasm, and community spirit have no age limit. They’re never afraid to get stuck in, whatever the task.

These young volunteers are the future of Peebles Christmas Lights, and we hope their example inspires more like-minded young people to get involved and help keep our Christmas lights shining brightly for years to come.

Peebles Christmas Lights Association plans to sell Calendars for 2027 to raise funds for our organisation.
We would be very grateful for any photographs which you would be happy to donate to the project. The photos should be of areas recognisably in and around Peebles. Feel free to suggest a title for your photo and it would be helpful if you could indicate which month of the year you think is best reflected by the image.
Photos should be emailed to [email protected] with your name, email address and telephone number. If we use your image then your name will appear beside it or on the back of the calendar.
Unfortunately we won’t be able to return photos so please don’t send us your one-and-only-original!

Can You Help Keep Peebles’ Christmas Tradition?

Scottish Borders Council has confirmed that it will no longer provide a Christmas tree for the Parish Church steps. While the Council will install and light the tree this year, this arrangement may not continue in future years.

Given the Association’s existing commitments to maintenance and installation of the Christmas lights and displays and the Switch-On, we are seeking another local organisation or community group to take on responsibility for sourcing and providing the Christmas tree for this much-loved festive tradition.

We know there is tremendous community spirit in our town, and several organisations have already expressed an interest in donating and helping. If your group or organisation would be willing to take on this role, we would love to hear from you.

We are delighted to be able to announce that the arrangement we had with Two Rivers Vets over the past years whereby they donated the power we need for the upper part of the Old Town Christmas Lights from their premises will now be continued by the new owners Haystoun Property Services. The generosity and commitment to the Community displayed by both firms means a lot to us and helps us immeasurably to put on a great show every December. We look forward to seeing the building in it’s new livery very soon.

Last Wednesday night we held our AGM, where we looked back on the previous year of events, reflected on the hard work carried out throughout the year, and re-elected our office bearers for the year ahead.

It was also an opportunity to review our annual accounts and the real costs involved in keeping Peebles Christmas Lights shining bright for the community. Last year, our total income from fundraising and donations was £8,956 while our expenditure came to £8,593

Our biggest expense continues to be the Switch On event itself, costing £5,080, with income from the event totalling £1,615.

As a small committee, we work very hard behind the scenes all year round planning the Switch On, as well as carrying out repairs and maintenance to the displays to ensure Peebles shines brightly.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who continues to support Peebles Christmas Lights through sponsorship, donations, fundraising, and attending our events — your support really makes it all possible.

We are very proud that one of our Committee Members, Malcolm Bruce has been named Tweeddale Citizen of the Year for 2025.

Malcolm is a stalwart of the Peebles community and a dedicated volunteer to so many different organisations in the town.

Congratulations Malcolm, very well deserved .
