R-evolve R-evolve teaches practical skills to young people through our engaging workshop sessions and inclusion programmes

R-evolve teaches practical skills to young people through our engaging workshop sessions and inclusive community projects. Based upon bikes, metal-working and unbridled creativity our programmes deliver employability, qualifications and a hugely rewarding experience. R-Evolve is youth centred employability project operated by Live Learn Earn CIC, a social enterprise incorporated in November 2020 t

o deliver practical and life skills to young people in the Scottish Borders. R-Evolve is aimed at engaging young people of school age in a variety of activities, and through individual projects, that generate a range of practical and soft skills to enhance young peoples employability and create self-belief, self confidence and enhanced personal development. We work with Primary and High Schools alongside employability organisations to deliver programmes to augment, support and supplement existing courses in order to deliver a range of qualifications and awards. Our activities, projects and environment is specifically designed to supply those young people, who find the formal educational environment challenging, with a welcoming, alternative learning experience that excites and challenges to create positive outcomes. Our programmes and projects are designed and delivered with strong environmental messaging around active travel through biking in all forms and the recycling of bike parts to make creative and practical works, the production of which provides a powerful focus for our workshop sessions.

R‑evolve might be based in the Scottish Borders, but we’re far from limited to it!

Here’s a look at some of the places we’ve been delivering programmes and community projects across Scotland.

Our mobile workshop setup means we can support schools, youth organisations and community partners wherever we’re needed.

Still growing, still expanding, with many more locations on the way.

Mohammed and Andrea kicking off their first day of work experience at AB Wight in St Boswells. A huge step and fully earned through their hard work in our Train, Work, Job! programme.

We’re so proud of what they’ve achieved and buzzing to see them put their skills into action. Massive thanks to Andrew and the team for giving them this opportunity.

Meanwhile, R-evolves founder Aegir has been soaking up the sun in Spain - clearly on the lookout for ideas to bring back home. Turns out even on holiday he can’t resist a good metalwork sculpture when he sees one!

Sun’s out, tools out! ☀️⛓️🔥

Even during the school holidays and with the sun shining, the young people of Denny High School in Falkirk are still putting in the work. Both groups have spent their week designing their own totally unique, creative and intricate benches.

We’ll be heading back soon to complete the builds and capture the final creations!

Our participant Cammy has been on fire in the workshop lately. Every session he arrives with new ideas, energy, and a real drive to make things happen — and the projects he’s produced are unreal.

Recently, he’s made a custom stool for the equestrian events he goes to, a bottle stand with holders for bottles and wine glasses, a horseshoe boot pull off, and even a metal version of his pet tortoise Arlo.

Each project shows off his creativity, patience, and growing confidence — and the pride he takes in his work is clear in every detail.

Moments like this show exactly what young people can achieve when they’re given space, support, and the right tools.

Amazing work, Cammy! 👏🏻🔥🐢

Scrap Metal Tree Habitat
Or, as nicknamed by the pupils, “Hawick’s Hand‑Made Habitat.”

Combining three ideas into one: a tree sculpture built from an old bike frame, flowers made from industrial washers, and dragonflies crafted from nuts, bolts, bike chains, and bearings.

Started in Hawick over a year ago, this project has involved well over a dozen young people.
The finished sculpture is now on display in Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick, where it can be viewed by the public alongside other recycled metal artworks — all developed by pupils from Hawick Secondary School.

Horse Shoe Flower Dome

One of several brilliant additions to Hawick’s display in Wilton Park. Created from horseshoes collected from local farriers, this piece features a detailed rose wreath made using leftover flowers from another project.
A very creative and sustainable outcome born from thoughtful upcycling.

All crafted by pupils from Hawick Secondary School
