Steve Liptrot Photography Nature Photographer, Tutor & Guide based in South Oxfordshire. I have always had an interest in photography from a very early age. It was my dad’s fault!

He bought me an Instamatic Kodak for a Christmas present which took twelve black and white grainy photos and since then I have been hooked! I offer 1-2-1 photography tuition courses at a location that is both within easy reach of me and the client. Wildlife photography is my first love but motorsport, landscape, transport and macro photography are subjects I can offer help in. I teach you ideal camera settings for different scenarios, shooting tips and much more. Also post editing tuition available. Please message me for your requirements. I will try to keep them as varied as possible but I think most people prefer my wildlife images. TASTING THE AIR....
When a red deer stag appears to be "tasting the air," it is performing a specialized scent-checking behavior known as the Flehmen response. The stag curls back its upper lip, exposes its front teeth, wrinkles its nose, and sometimes stretches its neck or holds its head high. Stags use this mechanism primarily during the Autumn rutting season to determine if a female (hind) is in estrus (heat) and ready to mate.

COMMON KINGFISHER
You can find them on most rivers, canals and lakes across the UK, apart from in northern Scotland. Sometimes they’ll even visit garden ponds. They particularly like places where the water is clear or slow flowing, so that they can easily spot their next meal.

As the third and final Scramble of the 2026 automotive season, this highly anticipated public car show completely sold out ahead of time, with general sale tickets exhausting in just 22 hours!
This is an event I have enjoyed attending now for eight years, but there seems to less and less real classic cars 🫤. Seems to be more about modern cars plus now it costs an 'arm & a leg' to get in! The next Scramble is January 2027. Not sure if I will be attending 🤔

All images taken with a Nikon Z8 FX mirrorless camera with a Nikkor 24-120mm f4 lens. When I photograph shows I use a 77mm circular polarisor which is great for removing reflections from non-metallic surfaces.

A great day at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre in Gloucestershire.
Autumn and winter can be some of the best seasons for wildlife photography, especially in the UK. The colder months bring different behaviour, backgrounds and lighting that can make images much more dramatic.

OSPREY

BARN OWL
The beautiful barn owl is, perhaps, our most-loved owl. With its distinctive heart-shaped face, pure white feathers and ghostly silent flight, it’s easy to identify. Look out for it flying low over fields and hedgerows at dawn and dusk.

It looks like Beardie season has begun in my native Lancashire.
At this time of the year, Bearded reedlings change their diet from insects to seeds. The birds will eat small pieces of grit which enables them to digest the seeds.
RSPB Leighton Moss has two grit stations in different locations on the reserve. Both were very busy with around a dozen birds. When trying to locate these birds, listen out for their distinctive 'pinging' call as they move through the reed beds.
