Freestyle Hanamai arrangements from Ohara school with the expert teaching of our guest sensei Ruriko Kojima. She showed us the dynamic changes that are possible by moving the individual elements so you can change the tension and the angle of the various elements to create a different feeling to our arrangements.

Our guest sensai today was Ruriko Kojima teaching us Ohara school arrangements.
The morning focused on technique to explore the moribana slanting style and then after lunch we went freestyle with Hanamai. Both beautiful arrangements to try.

Our theme this year is Ikebana Inspired by Paintings.
Doors open at 12:30, come and spend a serene afternoon looking at some beautiful arrangements and sit and have some tea and cake in our pop-up cafe.

Our teacher Takashi Sawano will also be showing his sumi-e brush paintings alongside our arrangements. Even more reasons to visit.

And then a room full of spectacular arrangements as a result. Each one completely different even though we used the same 3 simple materials.

A quick demonstration to show us the variations of crossing form and how to use the materials…..all lovingly prepared in advance for us by Sawano sensai……he had been gathering fallen branches and spraying them black for us for weeks!!

An excellent workshop last weekend with our teacher Takashi Sawano. We started with just three twigs and some gypsophilia so we could explore balance and placement of flowers and the crossing form.
