“Write what you know” is the most famous mantra for writers, and one that I wholeheartedly agree with. For 3 years however, I struggled with writer's block due to my OCD and PTSD. How could I talk about what I knew and was on my mind if the things on my mind were so horrific I couldn’t even admit them to a trusted therapist? With time however, it became clear: fears have to be faced, and I couldn’t be more proud of myself for facing mine. 18 months after admitting to them (and a year since I started on prescribed medication), I’m doing my masters, conquering my writer's block, overcoming brutal levels of heartbreak and working harder on myself than ever before. No matter what you’re going through right now, even if you feel completely alone like I do, I promise it will get better the minute you face it.
