It's great to be an artist!
Each child at Beckley School made a ceramic bird, inspired by the starlings of Otmoor. The starlings hung as a murmuration during the whole of art weeks. Each bird was unique and each bird came together to make the whole - much like our school!
We are incredibly grateful to Elizabeth and the team at Bernwood Pottery for making this happen, and raising over £200 for the school through donations at the installation. The children *loved* engaging with art inspired by our beautiful natural surroundings.

More science! Today we had a visit from the brilliant Tom Smith. His ingenious methods helped the children to understand states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. This culminated in a carbon dioxide experiment, since frozen carbon dioxide sublimes directly from a solid to a gas. There was lots of learning and lots of fun. Thanks Tom! :-)

Just before Easter, every child in the school made a clay bird, which they personalised to make their own. Each bird was then fired, glazed and refired at Bernwood Pottery. The birds will be hung as a murmuration, inspired by the starlings of Otmoor, in the barn at Bernwood Pottery during Oxfordshire Art Weeks, from 9th to 17th May.
The children had so much fun becoming completely absorbed in the art work. We can't wait to see the installation. Come and see the wonderful art our children have created!

Today we had another visit from the research team at The University of Oxford, working with our Key Stage 2 children. The children completed a 'titration' experiment to work out how much Vitamin-C was in different drink samples. The scientists were impressed that the children remembered how this method, using Lugol's solution, could be applied in a new context, having used a similar method in an earlier experiment. Well done Key Stage 2 😃

Last week featured a visit from the excellent Team Rubicon, allowing children to work on their skateboarding and scootering skills. This was followed by a fun session with Footy Kids on their inflatable pitch. What a fun day! :-)
