Yesterday, Years 1 and 2 took part in our Responsible Citizenship Day, learning important life skills to help keep themselves and others safe.
The children explored the role of the emergency services, discovering when to call 999, what information to provide, and even learning that the Coastguard is part of the 999 service! They practised road safety through the Green Cross Code, learning how to use zebra and pelican crossings, recognise the green man signal, and understand why it’s unsafe to cross between parked cars.
They also discussed community kindness, including recycling, local speed limits, and ways to help keep our environment safe and welcoming for everyone. A visiting nurse taught the children valuable first aid skills, including how to treat burns, apply a plaster, and the key dos and don’ts when someone needs help.
To finish the day, the children became problem-solvers, creating vlogs to demonstrate what they would do in different unsafe situations. We are so proud of how engaged, thoughtful, and responsible Years 1 and 2 were throughout the day! 🌟
