Happy Diwali! The Seedlings children are extending their vocabulary and exploring their olfactory senses with different spices ( cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, star anise). Diwali is the symbolic victory of light over dark, and good over evil — never failing to bring people together in a vibrant, positive, and unifying celebration✨🪔🌟

Montessori activities: Tower and Stair progression work. Maths without the children realising that: Pink Tower teaches size, where cubes increase progressively and the Brown Stair teaches width. Like any other Montessori activity this has a built in control of error, with the main aim being the discrimination between linear dimensions 💡⚖️🧮🧠

Our much loved garden at Seedlings offers so many opportunities for the younger children to settle in- while digging, making mud pies and potions, balancing, singing, laughing and of course, having those meaningful conversations with their teachers👁👣👃👁

Story Sequencing- Little Red Riding Hood.The child is choosing the story box, arranging the picture cards in the right order and retelling the story in his own words, using some props too for more expression.
Learning to sequence is an important part of the child’s cognitive development, along with learning mental concepts such as pairing, matching, cause and effect🧠👁📖

Create, design and build. The child is building a ‘ship where the cars and people go’, pointing to it. Lots of ‘what if’ questions followed.
The child learns what will work and what will not. Trial-and-error is a great method in which to create structures and modify methods. Overcoming problems to build structures in a particular way will always aid creative thinking and problem solving skills 📍🤍💬

Friday’s Art History Club: Edgar Degas- We talk about how the French artist liked to paint ballerinas, but not as they performed, but how they stretched and prepared for dancing. We warm up like dancers and then dance to Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of Sleeping Beauty. Later, the children have the opportunity to practice their fine motor skills, pinching crepe paper to make tutus to stick down, and drawing the costumes and features on stretching ballet dancers 🩰🎼
