Did you know that around 75% of the world’s major food crops depend, at least partly, on animal pollination? 🐝🌾
Yet modern intensive farming has helped create a serious problem.
Fewer hedgerows. Fewer wildflowers. Heavy pesticide use. Loss of habitats. Declining insect populations.
And when we lose insects, we don’t just lose bugs.
We lose pollinators. Natural pest control. Nutrient recycling. Healthy soils. And ultimately, some of the natural systems our food production depends upon.
The farmers of the future therefore face a huge challenge: how do we produce enough food while restoring, rather than stripping away, the ecosystems that make farming possible?
That’s why our Future Farmers built a Minibeast Hotel.
Not simply as a craft project — but as a small-scale lesson in regenerative, biodiversity-friendly farming. The children had to think like the farmers of tomorrow: create habitat, encourage beneficial species and design food production around nature rather than against it.
Because preparing children for the future shouldn’t just mean teaching them about the problems they’ll inherit.
It should mean giving them opportunities to start designing the solutions. 🌱
