There's a statement among the scholars which translates to:

"The Knowledge which benefits you is that which you can take to the bathroom (ie you memorised it)"

I also recall an amazing statement from Shaykh Salih ibn Uthaymeen (May Allah have mercy on him) which is:

"We read a lot while we memorised a little. However we benefitted more from the little which we memorised"

The reason I bring these statements is to remind you that we need to retain the knowledge which we learnt.

The best way, is to memorise!
And in order to facilitate your memorisation of the poem which you learnt with Shaykh Wael - you need to revise it.

The best of speech after the book of Allah is the Prophet ﷺ.
