We were delighted to welcome Mim from Sandwell Libraries into SFX today to lead an assembly for the children all about the Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge is free to join & open to all children aged 4-11. All you need to do is visit your local library, sign up to the reading challenge & read a range of books throughout the summer. Children will get to collect stickers & rewards throughout the challenge as well as receiving a special medal & certificate once completed.

We would like to urge as many of our children to take part as possible. Research has shown that children who read for pleasure over the summer are much more likely to maintain or even improve their reading age, vocabulary & comprehension skills.

Children are welcome to bring their rewards from the Summer Reading Challenge to share with us in our Gifts of God assemblies in the autumn term.

We look forward to hearing about all of the wonderful reading our children have done over the summer & thank you to Mim for sharing the summer reading challenge with us 📚 Emmaus Catholic Multi-Academy Company Oldbury Library Archdiocese of Birmingham

In April we were delighted to welcome Louise from Sandwell Council into school to deliver road safety workshops with every class. During her visit, Louise launched a competition with our KS2 pupils to create a road safety poster which all of KS2 completed in school. Louise came back to visit us last Wednesday to announce that two of our pupils designs have been selected to promote road safety outside of our school. You will see the incredible banner & lamppost signs up outside of our school gates. Congratulations to our winners & all who took part in the competition. We are so proud of our children for taking action to make our school & the surrounding area a safe place to be ❤️ Emmaus Catholic Multi-Academy Company Sandwell Council Sarah for West Bromwich Archdiocese of Birmingham The Birmingham Catholic Primary Partnership

Water Safety Awareness Message from West Midlands Fire Service

During the hot spell over the late May Bank Holiday weekend and half-term holiday, there were a number of tragic incidents around the country, many involving young people. The forecast over the coming weeks is for temperatures to rise again.

To keep yourself and your loved ones safe around water please be aware of the following:

• Of all drownings in 2025, 57% took place in inland water – canals, rivers, lakes, ponds – the type of bodies of water we have lots of in the West Midlands.
• Even if the weather is warm the water may be cold, causing your body to go inro cold water shock.
• If you fall into water Float to Live – put your head back, float on your back and keep yourself stable by using small movements of your hands.
• Once you are stable you may call for help or swim to the bank if it is feasible.
• Do not go into the water to save people or pets. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

For more information about staying safe around water please visit the West Midlands Fire Service water safety page (https://www.wmfs.net/safety/water-safety/) or the RNLI Education Resources page (https://rnli.org/youth-education/education-resources).

What another wonderful day we’ve had! Year 6 had the privilege of visiting St Mary’s College, Oscott today: they have been fantastic ambassadors of our school by embracing new opportunities and asking the seminarians excellent questions. We ended the day by celebrating Mass together in the beautiful chapel 🙏🏼
Well done, Year 6 ✨

The whole school has focused on ‘The Great Big Green Week’ this week as part of Climate Justice Week. There have been so many wonderful letters to tomorrow written as the children thought about how they want to protect their future and make sure Earth will be well cared for. From Nursery up to Year 6, amazing conversations have happened about the importance of being Stewards of God’s creation and protecting our Common Home. 🌍♻️🌳

Year 5 enjoyed a special visit last Friday! Alison from Litter Watch led the children in exploring the impact of litter on our environment and taught us how to use our local bins in Sandwell to keep our community clean and protect wildlife.♻️🌳

To put their faith into action, Year 5 created their own seed bombs inspired by nature and carefully placed them across the school grounds. This helped them to understand how even small actions can make a positive difference to the world around us, encouraging biodiversity and creating habitats for bees and butterflies! We are so proud of your enthusiasm and care for God’s wonderful creation Year 5! 🌱🌍💚

Year 6 have had a fantastic and inspiring day at St Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham today. They listened attentively and learnt so much about the history of the cathedral and the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The guides were blown away by their knowledge and understanding of the Sacraments and the life and works of key figures from the People of God. Well done, Year 6 - we are so proud of you!
