Some places leave you completely speechless… 💗

From the first step underground, Salina Turda feels like entering another world. Hidden deep beneath the surface of Transylvania, this incredible former salt mine is now one of the most unique places we’ve explored in Romania.

Huge underground chambers, a lake, incredible views and so much history, definitely one for the family travel bucket list 🇷🇴

Some places make you stop and wonder how they can possibly be real

Salina Turda in Romania is one of them.

Once a working salt mine, today you can descend deep underground into this enormous space and find a Ferris wheel, mini golf, table tennis and even an underground lake where you can take a boat. 🎡🚣

But for me, the best part was simply exploring it together and watching him take it all in. These are the kind of experiences I hope he remembers from his childhood 💙

If you’re visiting Transylvania or Cluj with kids, Salina Turda is definitely one to put on your list

Today he built his own bookcase 💙

He read the instructions, worked out which pieces went where, measured, used real tools safely and figured things out along the way.

There were a few “wait… that doesn’t look right” moments 😅 but that’s part of learning too

I love how a simple everyday job can turn into so much learning without really feeling like a lesson. Reading, maths, problem solving, patience and some very useful life skills

One bookcase built and a lot learned along the way 😍

Today’s home education activity: making Elderberry Syrup from scratch 🌿

We picked the elderberries ourselves, learned how to recognise them and turned them into our own homemade syrup

Along the way we covered:
🌿 Nature & science: elderberries grow in clusters on the elder tree and change from green to dark purple-black as they ripen. We also learned that raw/unripe elderberries and other parts of the plant shouldn’t be eaten and that the berries need to be properly prepared and cooked
➗Maths: weighing, measuring and quantities
📖 Literacy: reading and following a recipe
🥣 Life skills: picking, sorting, washing, preparing and cooking
👐 Practical learning: seeing the whole process from plant to finished product

300ml of syrup & so much learning💜

Some of the most important journeys don’t take us very far, they simply remind us to slow down.

Here’s to choosing moments that become memories. 🤍

Where are your little feet taking you today?

Some of the best childhood lessons can’t be found in a classroom, they’re discovered with sandy hands, salty air, and time to simply be. 🤍

Here’s your reminder that you’re allowed to choose a slower childhood.

Some days feel ordinary while we’re living them. Years later, they’re the moments we wish we could relive 🤍

A realistic glimpse of outdoor learning 🌊☀️

Digging in the sand, collecting shells, rescuing crabs into their tiny “hotel”, kicking a football, chasing a kite… the kind of childhood memories that teach more than we often realise. ❤️

Play isn’t a break from learning, it’s how children learn best.

When we slow down and make space for play, curiosity, creativity, confidence, and connection naturally grow. 🌿

Don’t forget to stop and play.
