Unfortunately, some organisations have a negative approach to training their employees.
Particularly in the use of GIS software like ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
As the demand for people with these skills is growing, they fear that if they have individuals who are too highly skilled that they will leave the organisation.
This is really self-defeating as technology is changing fast and users of GIS software need to keep up to date.
If they don't keep up to date, how are they expected to do their jobs?
If those using geospatial data are unable to keep up to date, they will get frustrated, disillusioned and ultimately leave for an organisations that WILL invest in their talents.
So if an organisation thinks investing in training is expensive, then they really need to think about how much more costly NOT investing in training is to their company.
Not only in the loss of key people but in morale and the ability of the company to deliver.
