Two great sessions recently with our Year 10 and Year 12 3D Design students, who took part in workshops delivered by Richard Malcolm, Senior Lecturer in Product Design at Nottingham Trent University , and Sophie Nicolin, a final year Product Design Student.

The students gained insight into the different degree courses offered at NTU, and learnt about the wide variety of projects that students work on across the design industries, giving them a clearer idea of where their current skills and interests can take them after school.

They also heard about the fantastic placements that students participate in if they choose to opt for a year in industry as part of their course (with Cadbury being a particular option of interest!).

A real highlight was hearing about Sophie's final year project. Sophie explained how current industry testing of menstrual products falls short, not taking account of the human body and how different periods can be. She showed students how the prototype she has developed is more anatomically accurate and has a number of features to allow for more effective testing of tampons. It was a fantastic example of how design can be used in such a wide range of industries to improve people's day-to-day lives.

Thank you to Richard and Sophie from NTU for coming in and showing our students how the skills they are learning in their 3D Design lessons can be used to solve real-world problems, and we look forward to taking the group to visit the Degree Show in a few weeks!

🤝A POWERFUL DAY FOR OUR PREFECTS 🤝

From our Head Girl, Dia.

"On Tuesday, we visited Northampton Girls' High School for a networking and leadership event with the other prefect teams from our fellow cluster schools.

"It was a great experience, which started off with an incredibly empowering speech from Dr Lee, Headteacher at Northampton. Alongside her insightful advice on leadership from years of experience, we then partook in a series of ice-breakers and discussions with mixed groups of prefect teams between the schools. Not only were we able to share our personal experiences in leadership and lessons we have learnt, but we also made action plans to deal with leadership challenges, such as ensuring everyone in a team is included, and that meetings are productive.

"All in all, it was a superb day and we can’t wait to apply all the knowledge we’ve gained to our own prefect initiatives.

"Thank you to Northampton High School for hosting, and to all the other prefect teams involved, who made the day so enjoyable!"

🫶 NON-UNIFORM FUNDRAISER FOR AGE UK NOTTINGHAMSHIRE 🫶

With thanks to our Charity Prefects, Anya and Rosie...

Our non-uniform day on the final day before the half term break was focused on raising money for a local charity: Age UK Notts

Age UK focuses on providing support for the elderly as they navigate their later years and they aim to achieve this through offering several services. For instance, they provide support for dementia patients and their carers, host events to build a sense of community and provide a space where lonelier members of this age group can find friendship.

We have already managed to raise over £530, an exceptional amount that we’re proud of and hope will make a sizable difference.

We’re saying a sad and fond farewell to our two amazing chefs, Hayley and Bec, today.

Hayley has been with the school for 12 years on and off, and leaves us to go to another exciting hospitality venture!

Bec has been with us for more years than she cares to remember! Famous for her lasagne and mini jacket potato canapes, she’s cooked for thousands of students, staff and alumnae as well as making some wonderful celebration cakes too. Bec is going to enjoy some well deserved time off!

Wishing you both a very happy future, we’re going to miss you.
